Very cool looking place in the canyon area. Well worth exploring. I've done well on clouser crayfish, with smallmouth and trout. I caught my first trout on a dry fly there too. I haven't fished it in a few years, but doubt it has changed too much. Just be careful of posted property if you leave the park area.

It comes from the Seneca Indians. They called it Wechachochapohka....a slippery rock. Legend has it they were chasing soldiers across the creek in Colonial times. The soldiers made it across the creek in their heavy boots but the Indians slipped in their moccasins.

I personally don't think SRC is any more slippery than Yellow Creek in Indiana County. I have taken way more swims in that creek, but also fished that creek a lot more. I just figured that it was some sort of aquatic slime that was in a lot of the WPA creeks.

I knew the town was named for one exceptionally slick rock but so was the crick. The rock is below the Armstrong Bridge & had a natural oil seep over it. It is believed that a Indian trail forded at at a shelf ov sandstone near a natural oil seep which made the rock. That ladies & gents is your history tip ov the day Yours Truly, crappy

Thats close to what I was told....Legend had it that they were chasing some wanted Indian leader and as his horse jumped into the creek, it slipped on a huge flat shale rock which is located just up from the Van Gorder Mill Rd bridge. When he fell off the horse, he was shot and killed. Were you serious with your story??

The mcconnells mills park map has the story about the rock with the oil seeps. the actual slippery rock is near one of the bridges near the park. there is no longer an oil seep though since the oil was all sucked away.

not sure of the reasons behind the name but src is excellent for trout and smallmouth, fathead minnows, and rebel crawdad lures, my pb for both is a 19'' rainbow and a 3 1/2 pound smallmouth, both were caught below the **** its a little hike to the spot but the scenery is beautiful this time of year

Drunk college kids caused the naming of that creek. I was 1 of them years ago.
