I've been out several times on the Allegheny in the last 2 weeks...Bite has been pretty slow overall, think the water is still too warm yet.

I've been able to manage a few bass, cats, walleyes, and drum each time out. The walleyes have all been on the short side, and the only real bite for them has been the last 15-20 minutes right before dark.

Got out on monday with the grandson. We fished the Ohio below the Poit and did well. There were quite a few boats out--probably due to Columbus Day. The cats and white bass were hitting. Grandson caught a white bass that was easily a citation fish. All fish released to fight another day.

I had a pretty good 2 days of fishing the river this weekend.

Saturday afternoon I caught and released my first ever river Musky ~ was in the mid to upper 30's. Certainly not a gaint, but put up a good fight on 8lb test and medium action rod. After that, I caught about a dozen or so walleyes, with the best going about 20 inches.

Returned to same location on Sunday afternoon and the first fish that I caught was a 25" walleye. Caught 4 more after that one, all in the 16-18 inch range. All fish released to fight another day. Unfortunetly I was fishing solo and didn't have a cam to take any pictures.

All in all, a pretty good weekend to be out on the river. It seems that the colder water has really turned the walleye bite on.

If I ever get a free afternoon I'd love to get down to the river to try for some eyes. Sick of trout and frustrated by steelhead crowds. I've really only targeted eyes on Erie. Very slow bottom dragging retrieve? Any tips on location? Don't need a specific spot. But are creek mouths the place to be? Or dams? Deep drop offs? I have a boat but would like to target them from shore. Good catchin BTW would've loved to see a pic of that ski. Congrats.

That's about it. They'll move into the shallows in the evenings. If you fish below any of the dams, or mouths of any of the creeks, and not afraid to move around a little, you'll likley find a some fish. I like the dams if the water isn't flowing hard, and creek mouths if they are looking for refuge. Although, creek mouths are great, just about any time, with the amount of bait fish they hold.

Slow bottom bouncing retrieve will work, but get hung up a bit. Creek chubs, fat heads, twister tails or sassy shad. Not sure if it is the Spring or Fall, that Rapalas and other shallow running stick baits do well (I think both)? I haven't hit the rivers hard in 3-4 years. I should head out myself before it gets too cold.

    Good luck.
