weekend summary

Headed up late thursday morning... had to pick up my buddy bill in rheinbeck area of ny.... got up at 7 pm... fished fridaymorning and managed to stick 10 and land 2.... worked the rest of the day and hit the water for the last 2 hours of the day; hookeda few more but nonelanded.... my brother managed to bring a #9 steely to hand though... as I knew; the cohoes did barrel in on saturday morning... work was the priority though... I opted towards working and letting my brother hit the water... he took out a friend of ours and his 11 year old daughter down to dsr... I've gotta say; the smile on that little girlsface when she came running down the driveway talking about all of the cohoes....priceless; that right there was worth more than any fish I would've caught if I had gonedown that day.... they went back down in the afternoon and hit the hoes even better.... I ended my work day on saturday by straddling a 11 on 12 roof ridge 30' off the ground....moments after I came down RT showed up.... jack (pafisher) had popped in earlier; and pistolpete had come by late morning and graciously helped out...

RT: it was really enjoyable listening to your fishing/life stories... we all enjoyed; especially my buddy bill

Pistol pete: thanks so much for the help; everyone enjoyed your company and graciousness; looking forward to throwing
Some backhand casts with you in the future...

Pafisher: a pleasure as always; thanks for picking up the pizza and you for sure get the 2nd place prize for last man standing out of team fish usa first place was me...lol

Charlie: you are such a knowledgeable angler right across the board; I respect your way of telling it how YOU think it is while still keeping an open mind... im looking forward to spinning up those dozen flies you requested rather than the 12 bucks for the fly line... ps.... you looked like a kid on a sugar high when you were explaining your banner day you had with the cohoes....lmao

Tuna: you're exactly what I thought you'd be... a great guy; I was really looking forward to hitting the water with you but I sense there will be other oppurtunities... that is for steel; not slammins...

Drake: glad to hear you're ok; was looking forward to meeting you; im sure there will be another day...

Wader;slammo; slayer: would've been nice to catch up with you guys; glad to hear you guys had a good time; mybrother fished ddr sunday morning and managed to put 2 on the bank; but as stated; the fishing was low sunday... hey slammo and wader; was that you guys who pulled in my driveway around 230 and then quickly pulled out? Oh well; maybe next time...

For Dimebrite: time was not on my side to say the least but im glad to see a few folks made it out... it seemed as if a good time was had by all... I think I heard RT say "good times" atleast a half dozen times... unfortunately time is still very tight for me; work; family; priorities/obligations... too many to tell... I will be lurking around but not posting as much for a little while... thanks again for everyone stopping by; hopefully more will come next year... there seems to be a nice group of new board posters lately that are contributing nicely... keep it up... tight lines to all and go get em....

    Yep that was us.
Didn't seem as you described your place.
I thought you had PMed me I would see the pole barn from the road.

The little blond girl in the driveway made me think I had gotten your directions wrong.
Fichy and Tuna mentioned that their wives would be coming along but Inever heard about the girl.
Didn't want to bother somebody we didn't know so it was out for us.

Maybe at a later date now that I know it was the right place.
Woulda been nice to have gotten a face to face with you and the guys here.

You didn't tell me the how hillslide slid in the river filling in the whole of the head of the snag.
Even if the coho had gotten up that far (they hadn't) they would just be blowing by.
No pocket left to hold and rest in.

Glad to hear you got some fish...

    That was Slamo.
Ya I thunked he had better make quick work of it and he did.
Backed across and then off the shoulder waiting for me to get out.
Sorry I didn't notice you coming.
Your face I would have recogized from photos.

    Glad yall had good times.
I don't know fichy but I've benn telling you that Tuna was the straight goodness.
If he fished with fichy a second time for free that tells me fichy is the real thing also.

Wader ,if you saw a guy on the same side of that bank that slid down, that was me. Was trying to find a quiet place to learn the fly gear. Anyway Meeting everyone at Dime's was an absolute blast. A bunch of guys from different times, places and backgrounds with the same love of fishing. I can't believe you guys left one beer in the cooler, somebody had to have had room for one more.LOL.Dime, I'll PM you later for a proper thank you.Retired, found the spot you told me about, may try it this weekend.PA, great talking around the inferno Dime set- I'm still sunburned from it.Tuna and Charlie, I was a little fuzzy in the AM and was about half hour late to the meet spot.Huge mistake on my part. You guys are as solid as I thought you would be. Hope to catch up sometime for a lesson and I will let you know when the first fly comes out of the vise. Thanks for the supplies.I look forward to bumping into my new friends on the river and meeting a couple more sooner or later.

Pete where are you talking about behind Dimes or down low on the DSR.

If the guy you saw was 6'5" 265 wearing a Guiness hat it was me.
Beer hats are always lucky for me.
The first was a Ranier beer hat I brought back from Wash state in the 70s.

Next time guys. Hopefully the crowds will be like they were this round.

No better place to raise the cholesterol levels and have a laugh at the same time.

No DEC there when we were.

Best and worst fishermen I've ever seen all at the same time.
It appeared they got at least 1 bite on every cast, sometimes more, but missed 99% of them on the hook set-sets.

Let's not b so hard on the Tressel(or was it 2A?)--isn't that where Drake busted his 3 yr steelie drought?A famous guide said it didn't count though--cause they were pullin plugs.

Plug fish are like trolling caught fish.
The Capt chooses the plug-spoon-squid, runs the line out a certain number of pulls-hooks up the downrigger and the client stares at the rod in its holder until the Capt gets a fish to bite.
Then they reel the fish in while the Capt moves the boat to the most advantageous positition.

Close to fishing but not quite really fishing.

    Hey- I got a joke.
Guy goes out on his boat fishing and always comes back with his limit.
Warden  notices this and asks if he can explain how he always seems to get his limit.
Guy says "Heck- let's go fishing tomorrow and I'll show ya".
So they meet up the next morning, get to a spot where fish are visible on the sonar & the capt. reaches in his tackle box.
to the warden's amazement he pulls out a stick of dynamite, lights it and tosses it in the water.
Kaboom- fish float up and he nets them. Warden is stunned. Then the guy does it again.
They go a little farther and the warden thinks this is enough of this crap as the guy reaches into the box again.
So the warden is reading the guy the riot act about what he's doing is illegal and this will really cost him.
Just then the guy hands the warden a lit stick of dynamite and asks "are you gonna run your mouth all day or are you gonna fish?"

My wife and I waited  and hour in Paulandjo's dump for  a sub. If the little zitheads in the kitchen offered to share their stash, it would at least have been polite. We sent an e-mail to the owners, I'm sure they got a good laugh. They need to be out of business.

Really didnt know where to put this so - HIJACK--
Coupla days back  was readin some nice reports from above and below and figured "here we go-finally"
What a dif  a few days makes- Reports  are rather dismal again for this time of year- everywhere.
Here we were lookin for August fishes and now the Sept.  fishes are thin- cept for the occasional pod. Those pods are nice for the folks that hitem but NOT as a monitor for the  whole River system which should be havin fishies runnin by now.
(cept for the guy who told me he had 46 Kings at the ballpark in August- and kept them too). ( hadda limit every other day or so ??????)
Nice to hear bout Hos and Steel but the reality is that KINGS should be the mainstay right now and starting to run hard- aint happenin.
      Thoughts?
October is startin to look real good.Perhaps even better than average cause they gottta come sooner or later.

Should have thought to look when I caught it but it never entered my mind til this morning.
Should look at every one and see if our ratio in any way matches up with DECs numbers later on.
But then I done with salmon for the year unless I go into the gorge next week.

Looks like 1 but with some cropping of the photo its hard to be sure since the water and glare distort the image.

Does this indicate that the wild fish retain more aggression and that we lowly flee flicker in the DSR get a shot at the wild boys before they get beaten into sulking brutes circling in the holes upriver?

Or are there just far more wild fish than anyone thought?
