Waters low and if its bluebird bright it makes it tough.
Best fly = what they want this second of this minute of this hour of this day.

As fishy posted while last week we both did well on pink today, it was a turn off.
Not to be a copy cat but red seemed the key today.
I had fish on orange also but red or red and something was the winner today.

Notice the fly in that kings mouth on my 9/18/11 thread.
Old school red and chartruse stop and go double egg.

Tie up everything a take yer shot.
    Its all you can do.

    Good luck

I will be up Pulaski on the Salmon from Oct 6 - Oct 24. I found a green plastic egg with a small tail, all shops sell them, is best. I fly fish and, that green colored egg gets hit every time. The salmon seem to snap at it as it gets in their face. That's all I use.

I dont see too many Atlantics get caught upriver where I tend to hang out but must say that have seen a few caught by those guys with the huge hooks and one single green bead while chuckin and duckin.. Right down the throat too-
Used to think it was just a mistake that happened here and there but seems all too frequent that they are clearly biting that single green egg. Dont recall seeing any with different colored eggs either. Perhaps just a roll of the dice that I have seen that happen a few times and nothing else but the greenie but -food for thought.

I've caught 2 in the DSR over the years.
    Both came on Skykomish Sunrises.
Traditional steelhead flies on the swing.

A dozen or so over the years in the upper fly or upper river.
When they first come in streamers in smelt and baby rainbow trout colors.
After they have settled in traditional nymphs dead drifted.

Green seems to be most of the time the hot color on the lake also, sure others work from time to time but as a friend told me he always starts out with green first. We may be on to something here. Quick funny story a friend some years back forgot his "bait" when he got on the river but he did have a bag of gummy bears. Said every fish he got was on green ones, the other colors didn't produce anything so he ate them.

Stress is just one hookset away from being gone.

coming up this weekend also what color sponge are they hitting??? guys all around me last year did very well on that.. but they were using a long shanked hook . I was using a small #4 octopus style I tried power egg, glow egg, little glo yarn on but not much success.. these guys were hooking up every 3-4 cast... I was in the same drift as them but only hooked 2 all day one on top of the head the other button side of the jaw. Thanks!

Hey 10- were you touching the bottom from time to time on your swing? Might have been too high in the water if not.
Forget that sponge stuff- get some egg sacs if nothing else- you may go through a few so get a large container-- you were spin fishing from what I can see and the eggs should  do fine - #6 or #8 hook on those eggs will do nicely.
May well spikup some steel that way too. Works just as well with the fly rod too- if your easy and dont snap them off.

I have had pretty good luck on a single Jensen Egg in green over the past few years. It is my go to when nothing is working.
