Waders

Ok boys, need opinions on bootfoot breathables. Only have 4mm neoprene and need some breathables. Stopped at Nancy's this weekend and was told they don't carry bootfoot, only stockings cuz they had so many returned with leaks. They carried Hodgman and even higher end brands but now only have stockingfoot. Does anyone agree or can you recommend a good bootfoot breathable?
Info much appreciated.
Rock on.

Mine are 6-7 year old stocking foot Hodgemens.

No info on quality of boot foots.

Google bootfoot breathable waders. Nextag has a listing of many brands.

I currently use stockingfoot waders. Re my breathable waders, for some reason the attached footing don't stretch when I'm putting them on, which probaly leads to tears in the stiching and leaking complained about. I stick to my hodgemens now.

I've had Hodgman bteathable boot foots for about 7 years now... no leaks yet... at the time they were under 200... if your fishing winter months I highly recomend boot foot...

Okay here comes a dumb question, I actually just got away from boot foot waders; why would boot foot waders be prefered in the winter months (ice?).  Always felt the boot foot waders were too heavy or at least in neoprenes, and now comes the second dumb question; are breathables a good idea in the late fall/winter months up in NY.  I would think that neoprenes i.e. 5 mm would be the route to go with.

I was under the premise that stocking foot waders were the best case scenario since you can use whatever boot you want (i.e. rubber versus felt, etc...).  Perhaps I made a mistake but I just bought a pair of korkers since I loved the idea of switching out the soles based on the creek/river bottom being fished.  I figured I could get a pair of breathables and a pair of neoprenes.

Wondering if I wasted my money.

Machine, you are fine. no prob with korkers and having neoprene and breathables. I like my neoprene in mid winter and go alot at that time.
I just don't want to be sweating all fall and spring or on warm winter days and wanted a good pair of breathables. That's all anyone seems to wear anymore and I prefer bootfoots. Just easier for me to deal with and always had trouble with stockings in the past.

Hey machine; there's more room forairspace in a boot foot and they are usuall/should be insulated for winter months especially... I've used nothing but breathables for the past ten years even in winter months... evendown tosub-zero. Mornings... they keep you nice and dry... the keyis capilene long johns with fleece oworn over them... even double fleece on coldest days... for the feet; smart wool makes a great sock that keeps you very dry and warm...

I'll second what DB said.  I do exactly the same and have for many years. The best thing is I can move well, walk far, and don't sweat to death if the temp goes up a bit.  I find a wicking  liner sock under the heaviest Merino wool works a little better than Smartwool for me . The airspace in the bootfoots, is as he said, very important. Nothing worse than falling in because you can't feel your feet anymore! Not a joke in the winter!

I have a Frogg Toggs wading jacket and love it for the price. They even replaced when the zipper failed. That was my fault not their's. I'm looking at their waders and boots and almost ready to move. I can get into the breathables/stockingfoot and boots for under $200. Google Frogg Toggs Outlet. I think that is the way I'm going unless I start hearing horror stories.

My neos are boot foot but I only wear them when it's super cold and the wind is howling.. Kinda sounds like winter ..lol..

mostly I wear breathables.. I mean 90% of the time.. Layering with the right materials is key as others have said and don't gett too small of boots...

here is a place to keep an eye on.. I have (still do) 3 pair of hodges lakestream in the last 9 years of very hard use.. I still think I'm way ahead of the game by buying cheap..

Just purchased two pair of frogg togg breathables for friends and wished I got a pair for myself. I owned bootfoot neos for years and up to a few years back made the switch. The stockingfoot breathables with a good wadeing shoe are hard to beat in temps from let's say 50 and up,air temp that is. But you can't beat bootfoot for steel season or deer season neither. Also you could use the wadeing shoes\shorts combo in much warmer weather. So your close to an all season combo if you have both. Good luck

Stress is just one hookset away from being gone.

Only if you get the wrong size stocking foots and boots for them (too tight) does this happen.

The problem is that the water pressure forces the stockingfoot tight to your feet stealing the airspace.
Proper layering is definately the key.

Well my wife will likely hate each and everyone of you as I just bought a fleece garment for under the waders, smartwool socks, and a pair of those Hodgeman breathables.
I will blame all of you, I need an escape goat.  I have had a TFO 8 wt, a lamson velocity 3.5, a pair of costa del mar (amber lens), a new pair of neo stockingfoots, and korkers replaceable soles sent to the house over the past two weeks.....  This trip needs to get here or I may end up being broke.

Dang. I like Costa's, but too much for me. I really dig TFO rods I've used. A friend who takes me Tarpon fishing uses TFO & they are sweet.

Yeah I looked on ebay for quite a bit of the stuff.  Found some good deals but a brown box a day doesn't seem to be working for the wife.  She just keeps rolling her eyes.
