FYI from Fisherie's acceptable use policy:

    • Mentioning specific fishing locations on private property which may cause increases in angler traffic (a/k/a "spot burning") is prohibited.

Trout you don't have to narrow anything down for me...I could care less where you catch your smallies. If I want to catch smallmouth, I'll find them. I was commenting on your post being humorous given the amount of water between the two creeks.

Don't worry I won't  There are at least a handful of locations mentioned that are on private land.

I really don't care if this guy wants to try and be someones hero, but I would like to see this policy enforced in a consistent manner.

What is the point of all of this?

If you told me a good spot, I would be LESS likely to fish there. Exploring and finding your own spots is most of the fun/challenge.

    ben,

would you truly stay away from a class a stream (that is partially posted), if it was close to your house and you needed a fix?  spot burning is real no matter what these hicks believe.  I have witnessed it first hand on places that actually harbor some worth.

Im sure Im missing something from another thread that makes this one more significant. But every spot he mentioned is public, and REEAAALLLY vague. You could find all of them by going to the fish comissh website. This is def not true spot burning. It actually might help someone who is new to the area to find a fishing spot.

true all dat and you have a guy/s that stumble onto a good spot, in the case of the spot on the river with the wiper pics, they were caught at dashields dam on the 65 side. that spot is far from secret. some guys think that because nobody is fishing there while theyre there that its a secret spot or because there arent pics being posted of fish from there that its a secret spot. its just not the case. people have been fishing there for years and that spot along with both sides from shore and all through the dam area have been producing huge fish and huge numbers of fish for years. just sayin'

River fishing 101 (from shore at least).

Fish below any of the dams.

Fish the mouths of any tribs.

    Fish anywhere you see structure.

Fish just about anywhere with access...

Has the internet made any sort of difference on fishing pressure on ANY given water system? That is the question and big topic of debate for many. I think, like in many facets of life, people need to learn to use discretion and think of ramifications/consequences before they take action one certain things. These fishing boards are certainly a great thing/idea when you break it down. So is the internet and beer etc. But when they are abused, mishandled or taken completely advantage of; things go awry. I like these sites for the comeradery, sharing of techniques, memories and even photos of our successes. If only some people would stop and think about certain places they fish and realize that they are NOT just the ONLY ones fishing there. We NEED to show a common courteousness to all the others who enjoy it. Public or not. I'm not going to go into all that I believe, but ask yourself one simple thing....How has this age of mega-information effected how when or where you fish? And how do you choose to handle it...Do you choose to just ignore it? Do you bich about it? What?

I, myself, went through phases with the whole internet fishing forums and it all started right here years ago. Those who know me, know I have an ongoing passion for fishing, just like most of you do. When I first started frequenting FishErie, I was excited to talk to fellow fishermen, pump my chest with photos and all the information I thought I knew. I didn't know any better....and MANY of the good men who once frequented this site are now gone....not dead, but gone from here. And this is one of the very reasons....the main reason really. Anyway, I got hammered a lot early on for my actions. I didn't get all defensive, most of the time, or retaliate with ignorance. I just took the opportunity to learn from it. I still like to post some photos or info on techniques and such, however, I DO NOT post specifics especially locations. This is simply personal preference because I've seen how some places, Erie tribs NOT included, have been burned because of it. Even entire bodies of water. Anyone who has been fishing for any significant period of time, knows the effects that Heavy pressure can put on a system. Yes, its public knowledge and has been for years....the difference now is that it is "instant" public knowledge that millions of people have instant access to. While I was growing up and getting into muskie fishing, My college buddy and I used to have a "fishing" map of Pennsylvania. On the back of the map, there was some basic info about each lake or body of water and what were the prominent fish in the system....Thats it. We hooked a 14' Alumacraft aluminum to either a '68 Pontiac LeMans or my '69 Chevelle and hit all kinds of lakes. What an experience I'll never forget! Lakes like LeBouf, Sugar, Canendotta, Woodcock, Tamerack(when it was phenominal lake), Edinboro, Khale and many many more. Who does that today?? We learned from our experiences and trial and error...documented and eventually narrowed our efforts to just a handful of lakes. I think through these experiences, we appreciated it ALL a whole lot more. Is THAT the right way to approach things?? Not necessarily and I'm not saying that, and I think its just a sign of different people coming from different eras. Things are certainly different today and a whole lot of it can be frustrating for someone like me, but I feel I have adapted well and learned to show some patience and use judgment with this whole information engine called the internet that everyone in the world can read. Certain sensitivies need to be taken into consideration depending on who you are and when you grew up. It goes both ways because butting heads gets us nowhere, just take a look at our government for Christ's sake!

All this said, I think life moves a whole lot smoother with "Happy Mediums" and "Everything in Moderation" Theories. Both young and old can benefit from all of this, but both young and old NEED to use common sense and good judgment before they say what they say, before they act on whatever it is they are about to act on, and in this case, before they post what they are about to post.

    Just sayin...

REALLY?  I thought no one knew that...  Who woulda thought fish like well oxygenated water that is slightly cooler then the normal flow?  :D  anywho he doesn't say specifics just kinda tosses areas out there that'd be like me saying "Oh the outflow at Loyalhanna Dam" Or well "Tunnelton Canoe launch under Conemaugh dam..."  Some people around here just need to lighten up just sayin...  Go out and enjoy fishing and nature and quit whining about people posting areas that are good to fish I doubt you'll see 10+ people at any of those spots on any given day...
