i managed to land this fish about 150 yards downstream from where i hooked her; i roped it up and walked back up to my spot; i then fished for 3 more hours and i managed to keep her alive until we left...

i was affraid it had a tumor on its back but it must of broken its back at an early age and managed to heal and survive... i gutted the fish immediately and kept it on ice for 3 days... i then filleted it when i got home this afternoon... i find they come oput much better this way in regards to texture and color... hey it beats bringing home some slimy bag with a mushy piece of meat in it... you can see the difference from this pic... i am no expert when it comes to filleting; but i prefer to do it myself...

btw; my son helped me fillet this fish; METALSLSAYER.... do you approve of this???? maybe i shouldve asked you before i did it... sorry

AWESOME job there db.. At least from the sit at home on-line reports things were real slow until this afternoon.. I just gotta say this,, You could at least left that handicapped fish for a handicap like me.. lol.. Seriously looks/sounds like you had a fun time all the way around and thanks for sharing the pictures.. You have the title of AWESOME here being the first salmon on usa..

Hoping things work well later in the week but now getting worried too much rain too soon.... NAH !!! We should be golden, it's just a matter of getting the fish in the system. Once there are enough then everything else is easy, or not..

Im sure you know where that spot is where im holding the fish... now picture it going through the white water through the pool below and then with a lot of line out swinging in towards the bank a little above the island below

And yes; I was shocked myself; I thought it was a hoe until I got a good look at it on the bank...

Glad you had a nice time.
Make sure You get all the bellie fat off the fillets.
Canada has a different take on the amount of carcinogens than N Y, but I believe in playing it safe, especialy with the little guy, since dioxins and mirex never leave once they enter a body.
Still couldn't pay me to eat those fish, but thats just me not much of a fish eater, even wild brookies .

A fine combo of chemicals and poopy.
The longer in warm water the more poopyish in both taste and texture.

I'll tell ya, I eat a good amount of fresh fish that I catch in the ocean, and only what I catch, rarely store bought unless it's a local

fishery. From the lake ontario fishery I will keep a few ho's, steel, and maybe one fresh king to smoke...and only smoke.

I've tried cooking them like I would cook a striper or even fresh flounder, broil, saute, bake and every time I was barely able to

finish one helping. River fish are especially nasty...from the lake I've had a better experience (taste)....but smoking them has been

very successful, especially the fresh ho's.

    Just my taste..on the subject...

Salt, I guess people tastes vary widely .. That's what makes folks well, human..
I know folks that go crazy for the fish be it from the lake or tribs there and always ask for some.. That’s all cool if that’s what they like but rarely anymore do I bother, I just tell them I didn’t catch anything.. For it’s me that has to carry that fish to the truck and prepare it ..
My taste for salmon/trout has disappeared long ago.. Believe me, in depressed times I have eaten enough to fire up the reactor if it shuts down.. lol.. Now I don't like it be it ocean caught, lake caught or trib caught , it's just too strong for my taste anymore..

Even in those cold Mountain streams I don’t eat much trout.. Once in a while camping over the fire but to bag it & tag it, nah they all got away...lol..

Now beer battered gills, crappie or perch yummy !!!

If you like it then eat it, if you don't then leave it..
