Sept.5

Well I shot up there to ellis cove lot, wife kept me up late so I didnt pull in till 8am. Walked down in to the stretch above muskrat, seen one holding and it let me swing my fly to it 5 times for it moved up, did not seem to have any interest in it. Worked my way down around mahoney bend and thru the bovines, in the water below saw another holding and it also let me swing my fly to it 4 or 5 times before he moved on. Kept going down to what I call snaggers row, right side above the tressel, there was 7 guys lined up and 4 more wandering around scouting, stayed there and drifted thru the two holes above them for 2 hours or so, never saw a fish but watched these guys swat at them, and chase them up and down, line never in the water for more than 5 seconds, oh well. Talked to two guys back in the parking lot and they said they were in the ballpark and it was loaded with people, they saw a few running up thru no stopping just hauling. I think its gonna get better by weeks end will see though.

Hey 3.. at least you are trying.. Are you just targeting salmon ? Not running plugs ?
Really I wouldn’t bother fishing that high in the river until the end of Oct after most have left and done with their "salmon" season..
I tried many times before to fish to "few" salmon in the upper stretches and only got frustrated.. If they are actively spawning, then they seem more aggressive but yes, pretty beat up .. The target becomes trout’s

Good luck man and if you ever need a co-pilot

Tuna, I just like going up and trying to stay away from the crowds, and if I hook up thats a bonus. No plugging till I see a little more movement. As far as fishing up high, Ive had some really good days up there early season. Im not a fan of combat fishing, and was able to work down thru almost everyhole and didnt bump into anyone till the last hole. You as I know anything is possible when your fishing up there, sure beat rideing the couch. Even though they didnt eat it gets my heart pumping when I watch that fly enter their strike zone. Ive seen them run and smash it, swirl and run from it, and not do anything at all as it drifts by inchs from them. Didnt have to work and got paid to fish not a bad day, fish or no fish.
