Got striped

Went Fri. to the DSR for the first time and saw only one fish within 100 feet of me. I did set up on a good spot HT told me about, but other guys showed up and camped on it too.  One guy got one. He was using about a 1/2 oz. wt. and a fly? with thread on it. He missed, hooked it in the gill plate,  and put it back.  Yesterday, I went to the Upper Fly, and after  a bunch of Spey guys beat the water to a froth in  the low water of the  Paradise Pool, I got in and hit the far bank at the lower part of the pool with an orange rabbit  comet, figuring any fish would have been pushed over there.  I played a very nice Skam for 2- 3 minutes before  it came unbuttoned. It's as close I've come to snapping a rod over my knee in a long time. We got some horrible food from a place that used to have good food, and some unfriendly behavior in general. I guess Pulaski is gearing up. I managed to catch lots of smallies and chubs, so I know I have a good  handle on trash fish. I did meet Dimebrite and his Dad, they're good people. All in all, I got a pretty  good comeuppance. If I don't post much anymore , it's because I don't know enough to hang here.

You never stop learning fichy, 28 years on that river and I still new things. You on the right site, theres alot of knowledge on here and even some good people. Hang tough and better luck next trip. p.s. smallies are great fighters and in the spring can be great fun on the river.

    Fichy:

All part of the process of learning the river.  It has happened to all of us and even those who won't admit to it.  Eagle Crg and I have had a variety of experiences that have tested our sense of humor.  Stay in there and continue to share.  You will see what a great group hangs out here.

I think it's still too soon to expect a lot of hookups.....Pulaski is a dump and heading lower as a town....I really like the DSR portion....The rest is combat fishing...I'd like to rent one of the houses on the DSR property in the future as they seem nice....the town has a couple decent tackle shops....Though it may be expensive, hiring a guide is a good idea....You can't beat local knowledge...I've hired guides on two trips so far this year in florida and arkansas....I couldn't have had the success I had without them....

Come on now.. That’s a world class fishery there .. LOL..

Really to some it is and I don’t blame those who enjoy it as such.. Some thing need to change for it to become so in my book.. Hopefully I'm around another 30 years to see if they do..
While the dsr is nice for salmon fishing don't get too fooled down there..

Hiring a guide is a good first step, looking into their background , talking to one and recommendations toward how you wish to fish is The most important though..

Hey Charlie - It isnt about the fish you catch- that will happen-its about the enjoyment of just fishing and the experience.
You said all the right stuff in your report- you DO belong.

Yep, it wasn't a great trip, but I'm going back soon....  Pafisher, I've fished smallies for  40 years, had one state record and guided for them . I've caught them in 12 states on the fly. If I had to pick 2 species to  limit my fishing to, no contest, steel and bronze.   Even smallies have trouble fighting a fast 9 wt. though, unless they are over 5, and these were pint sized.I apologise for calling them trash- they are anything but.  Thanks guys  for helping me feel like I do belong. I like it here. I just like to contribute  if I can.

Here's a couple of where's Waldo pics. Amphibians are decreasing at an alarming rate around the world, not so the SR.  I did miss a good indi take in this hole. Blame my wife for the pics.
