Fly Fishing for Musky/Pike

Yep there are a couple of guys on here that chase muskys with flys. If ya landed some your way ahead of the game. I fish larger flys. I dont like little steathy that are hard to see. I wanna either wanna elicite a territorial or food responce and a larger fly helps with this. There are no magic fly just repition and staying "on the clock" for every retrieve. Here are 2 of my biggest ones.

Thats a nice fish. I fished the allegeheny a couple of times. It just seems alittle big for me. I hate fishing a river I cant cover all of it. What style of streamer you using? The "take" is awsome isnt it?

lots of bucktail in reverse, feathers, and flashabou... in that order 2 or 3 times
big heads that move water creating a vortex for the materials to move
(use the search, there are a few threads and tying tutorials on musky/pike flies)

fished on sink or int lines
6/0 hooks
7+inches

I never caught one on a fly...That would be fun though! My goal is to get one on my pin....someday. I have, however, caught a few over the years Some good colors or patterns you might consider are:

-yellow perch....(yellow, green, orange with some black bars)
-straight black with gold flash (overcast days)
-white with silver flash
-Anything chartreuse

Do you guys weight the flies any

I just cant wrap my head around the single hooked flys. I know they catch fish I just like fishing tandems. And have caught foot long musky and pike on them so they dont deter smaller fish. I have even dabbled in triples @ 15 inches you can cast em but they cast like ****. I too am a big believer in unweighted flys on a weighted line. I dont like the clouser kick you get with a weighted fly.

Colors that have been good for me are black purple- and the hot colors.

Here is 1 of mine flys tyed on 6\0s.

On a 10wt. almost anything in the realm ten to 12 inches and unweighted is castable. Except materials like wool or big rabbit strips and marabou. Bucktail fash and hackle is were I'm at. If the fly aint gettin down use a heavier tip or a faster sink rate of line.

If ya got a floating line and wanna get out cheep make some looped sink tips outta t-8 of various lenghts. I like s.a. lines they have some sinkers that will get it done. And if your looking for a intermediate line look a the Piketreks fly lines. They have floating, intermediate and sinking lines. I have a intermediate from them nd its a great line for the price.
