Yes, there have been a few fish showing up in the mornings, has been this way for awhile now.

Nothing to get excited about yet though, but there is a chance if you do decide to go fishing.

    Here we go again...

    "The Wall

Anglers fishing the wall along the channel entering Lake Erie at the Walnut Creek Access Area are again advised that boaters have the absolute right of way. Anglers fishing the wall must remove their lines and give way to boaters exiting and entering the channel. Allowing ones line to entangle the prop of a passing boater in this area is a citable offense. Fishing line tangled in a prop can damage an outdrive seal causing oil leaks and possibly extensive damage. Boaters are asked as a courtesy to sound their horn as the exit the basin into the channel to let anglers know to pull their lines."

A few of the first steelhead of the season were caught off the wall at Walnut Creek early this past Sunday. This is not to say pack the truck, kiss the family goodbye and head for Erie, but simply to say the return has started in very small numbers. With overnight temperatures in the 50's and things starting to cool off, steelhead have been staging near the mouths of Walnut Creek and Trout Run. A few steelhead have been entering Walnut Creek at night but quickly head for cooler water at daybreak. There have been a few unconfirmed reports of steelhead caught along the shoreline at Trout Run in the early dawn hours. It's probably not too early to do some early morning trolling near the mouths or to be trying your luck along the shorelines or creek mouths.

    They're here.

I tried the lake shore this AM.  Good conditions other than the lake temp.  Still a worthwhile use of a vacation day.  No surfacing seen, which is odd even for this early.

This is the wrong place to put this, but since were on the subject.

What can we do as boaters if we get tangelled up with one of the wall guys.
Isn't there some sort of liability for payment for damages??? The damage that the line can cause is unseen(from what I have been told).  If I got caught up with someone, I would have it checked so any further damage would occur.

Well that does it! I am coming. I am loading up my Simms camo neoprene waders and throwing them in the back of my Prius pickup truck along with the orvis rod I bought at Walmart and some berkely blue power sucker spawn flies that I tied onto a #8 eagle claw hook. I got my Boga grips all ready and am ready to catch and release them off my yellow rope into my smoker. Just one question: Are the Russians up to route 5 yet?

Some people need to invest in a good pair of glasses, and maybe look a little harder.

That lady is really something else... I've seen her post a report like that before when there were literaly 200 steelhead along the wall. I was there tuesday and I never saw her leave the office.

"looked in creek of course nothing there..."

Apparantly you missed the lone adult steelhead in the stopsign hole, the 4 adults in the pool above it, and the two jacks in the upper project hole. Go gettum boys, I'm sure they're cooked after today.

ok first of all I went to erie a five hour drive from home just to enjoy sitting at the wall.  I fished from 8pm till about 5am.  I caught one small jack that was the only hit i had. I know its early but just wanted to get out and relax.  Water is still too warm and when i can sit there in shorts and fish then you know its too warm Now as for the boater that post about damage are you kidden me.  You jerks get marine upkeep and these boat launches from the money from my trout and erie stamp that is supposed to be for raising fish.  There is your liability you already take from the trout fisherman.  Its BS how Boaters get these special rights on the wall.  WE all pay the same for license so what makes you anymore special. If the money from the trout and erie stamp went to raising the fish stocked and improving streams like it was meant to there wouldnt be a debate the PFBC quote we are raising the license stocking fewer fish but bigger ones.  Yea right they are stocking fewer smaller one.  Boaters get enough of our money anyway So go clean the line from your motor and move on

First of all, considering you are from out of town, you know absolutely nothing about the boating channel that runs thru walnut creek. You are probably thinking " why are these boats so close to the wall "? " Why cant they give us room "? That's because the boats will bottom out from the middle of the creek to the rocks on the west of the creek. I dont agree 100% with the guy who is crying about boat damage. Never Ever heard of anything like that happening. Most boats have line cutters on their props to keep them from getting tangled. As a fisherman, who has fished the wall long before yinz new what steelhead were, find it very advantagous to pull yer line in for as da bote dont cut yer ship up. Why the heck would you want to keep retying your line? Also, Boaters pay way more each year for their right to launch that sucker, than you do to fish off the wall. Do you think you're the only one that pays to fish? I think this fall would be a good time to redredge the creek...........LMAO!
