Mon sauger personal best
I fished the Mon yesterday and slayed them. My best ever...consisting of six sauger with 4 between 17 and 17 3/4 inches with the two runts going over 15. I did not catch any other sauger, just the six. I won't spot burn but we all know the locations that hold sauger and I believe you can nail them at any of them. The bite slowed by 10:00AM so the last one came trolling a plug at another location at 1:00PM. Lets kick around some favorite walleye lures guessing what I used and at what speed/retrieve. What lure and what speed/retrieve? We will share info on baits in the process. To help, I will eliminate a popular bait...cross worm harnesses off the list of potential baits/lures as they were 0 for 5 hours of fishing the day before. If it ain't working, change up again and again until it produces. Guess now what lure caught five sauger?

The jig and a tail did well for me over the years tull66 with a minnie in white and chartreuse. But that is not what worked yesterday until 10:00AM in a solid gold metalic and second best was in silver with a red scale pattern. I tried to post a pic but the file was too big.

All good guesses but none are correct. Let's narrow the possibilities folks with a hint... Two mph is too fast for this lure. I first used it at Pymatuning in the late 1960's.

Flatfish or Kwikfish, F7 OR U20 if it was a Flatfish. I'm leaning towards a Kwikfish though.

We have a winner! It was a gold Worden flatfish (5" x 1 1/4") and a silver/red scale Kwikfishish k-11 leftover from Ontario salmon fishing the Niagara river. I put a lot of U- 20 in orange/black spots in the stumps of Pymatuning. The speed was 1.2 mph via electric bowmount. Congratulations.
