One Fly

Coming to the Salmon River for only the second time the end of September. Question: If you had to fish with only ONE Fly, what would it be and what kind of set-up would you use?

    Salmon river Yankee fly.

Cast fly, drift fly, YANKEE fly.

    Eventually you'll hook a fish.

Sorry can't give you just one.
Kings-size #8 with a black bunny tail, black bunny dubbed back 2/3 chartruse dubbed bunny front leaving enough room for a sparsw black feather collar, the chartruse should shape change as the collar pulses when tied properly.

Coho- #4 red or pink comet with a copper body.

All tied on 3 x long nympth hooks.
I'm cheap so mustad 9672 still works for me.
You will bend a few if you try to muscle rather than play some of the bigger fishies.
Around 1/2 to 3/4 minute per pound is a reasonable timeframe to judge your pressure depending individual fish.

Rig- 9 foot leader tapering to a 10-15 # test floro tippit depending on water color, speed and depth.

Orange Comet for Kings with black collar, gold chain eyes. Tapered leader to 10-15# flouroflex tippet. Only used 10 till last year & the Big hybrids? smoked me good.

Gonna go bunny this Fall like WaDerboy suggests too.

Glo bugs once eggies are in the water. Match the hatch...

Thanks spoon. I lost half a cup of coffee through my nose on that one!  HA! You have to share that on the Erie board.

If I had to fish with ONE fly it would be my " idiot pattern" for having one pattern in a black nymph when they're banging up

chartruse all around me...sorry just my mood, but you would be an idiot to have one pattern on the SR
