Ohio River Leetsdale

Planning on trying the Ohio for some bass on the weekend, launching at Leetsdale. Been a long time since I have been on the river there. Anybody know of any surprise shallows or hazards along that stretch of the Ohio from the dam down stream to Beaver. Thanks!

Two places you're going to want to watch out for. First place is at the private boat docks on the right hand side if youre facing the dam. The mouth of the creek is pretty shallow a ways out this time of year. The second place is on the left hand side if youre facing the dam. At the very end of the long steel wall, where they tie off barges, it gets really shallow with some spots coming up to about 10 inches. I would suggest that you stay about 50 or more yards away from shore for about 100 feet once you get to the end of the wall heading towards the dam. At least till you slowly explore and feel out that area. It's only a small area, but you can really do some damage to your boat if you're not careful. Hope this helps and made sense....pm me if you got any other questions. I should mention these two hazards are up river from the leetsdale launch.

Being new to this part of the Ohio river, what gives with the launch fee at the Leetsdale ramp? I stopped there awhile back and it looks like the fish commish. apparently turned over the control of the launch to the locals who now want a $50 annual fee. PLEASE tell me I'm mistaken. If not, what the "H" is the PFBC doing?? Thanks

Just put in at Rochester it's free. Leetsdale has always been known to take a few outdrives. Easy does it. Good luck.

Thank, good stuff. I did not know they turned the ramp over. Been 20+ years.

from what i understand, leetsdale leased the ramp to the fish comm. when the lease ran out, they wanted the pfbc to repave the lot & fix the ramp but only wanted to give the pfbc a year to year lease. i guess they told them no and i dont blame them. leetsdale charged $50 a year but since theyve been doing construction down there, they havent charged, but after they make improvments they may start charging again.
