Question for DB - Clarks Falls
DB - I have not fished the Clark Falls area of the river in a couple of years. I used to access the area via the factory property on the N side of the river. Is that area off limits these days (I heard that an Indian tribe bought a chunk of property there and closed access).

Drake; I don't frequent that area much. I did float from Altmar to ball park 2 summers ago; and I remeber seeing many posted signs right on the river banks all throughthat area...I honestly don't know for sure; but, I do have a friend who fishes that area alot; i'll ask him later today and let you know; unless someone else beats me to it

conflicting reports - who would of thunk it? LOL just kidding guys - thanks for info. I heard the same thing OldSalt - that's why I asked. PA - fishing under the "cover of Cammo"???I tip my hat to ya!!! Right side looking downstream is the N side. I don't know what prop the Indians bought, maybe Salmon Acres as DB mentioned - which would be the left side. I used to hike up from the papermill bridge also, but the snow drifts in winter were hostile - made me push the needle towards StrokeVille , so the last couple times I snowballed myself through the factory property - which puts you almost within casting distance of "da hole". I know there is a map of the SR that shows public access easements (not sure if it was on the DEC site) I will look around Al Gore's intraweds and if I can find it I will post a link. Not many folks fish there, especially in winter - cause it involved a good leg-stretch, cardio workout to get there. later d00ds

I found the link: SR PUBLIC ACCESS check out Map 1. no scale on the map, but to me it looks like the gap in the Blue Access Areas is approx near the factory I mentioned. not sure if these maps are up to date.

pay or stay sounds like another DSR-like op - but it only controls half the river, it is probably very interesting stretch of river when non-payers mix in with payers.. I'll keep clear till the snow is deep.

Used to fish out behind the Cemetery areas and a ways upstream. Would stay at Jims place and walk up and enter between the Cemetery and one of the houses- was a good trail from use and a sign saying you could enter there.. Not any more - just "keep out", For a long time before that you could park out on the road and walk in via any one of 3 or 4 paths = then they posted all through that area. Really liked that piece of water but like so many up there in recent years--'try and get there'. Is that the same are you guys are talking about? Get a perverted kick outa folks who Post and restrict access and complain bout all those fishermen. Wonder how many have a direct or trickle down income from fishing. Know one guy who hates fishermen cause he says they caused his taxes to go up cause the Town had to hire another police officer. His income is more or less made much higher cause of those guys he dislikes. Wont say any more cause some may know him. Some just elect NOT to see all those thousands of guys coming up with full wallets, dumping money into local business and making NO DEMANDS whatsoever on Municipal departments that cost Tax dollars. Talk bout positive cash flow------- There are so many areas of limited use on this River cause of this stuff that I'm frankly surprised at the limits on fish being diminished and NOT surprised at the shoulder to shoulder stuff around the State Parking lots. Changed a lot in the past few years.

I for one enjoy fishing posted water. Less people, unmolested fish, and it just seems so dirty. Keeps the senses flowing.

If I had house with an open lot next to it that was mine and had access to the river, give me a couple of bucks and have at. Times r tough and making a few dollars on cars parking in your lot would be a nice little deal. I would pay a little, not DSR amount, but up to five bucks would be ok. I know trash is an issue but a cheap garbage picker and bag is worth more green in the pocket.
Stress is just one hookset away from being gone.

Good point Coho- used to be several along the River who sold parking to guys fishing-It allowed access often in difficult areas-and gave a fiscal boost- very few now.

Park opposite side, believe its owned by papermill, Salmon acres is owned by the oneida indian nation, way bigger crooks than the barclay family. They claim to own 1/2 way across the river, I do know the dec parks there and watchs the river from the woods and pops out to bust snaggers, also a joke. My buddy used to run salmon acres, lots of good fishing done there early season than during the winter, the salmon run fills it with the rippers. The property next to it is owned by skeeter, he dont like you on his side but doesnt bother anyone on papermill side.

Well, in reality, skeeter can't bother anyone that stays on the North side. I can't recall the name of the factory I used to access at, but it is up the road from the Papermill, near the intersection of Rte2A and Centerville Road. To be honest, I only caught a few fish there, not really prime holding water during the winter, I guess I caught a few of the "transitional fish" (where did I hear that term b4 ). If the tribe is as bad as you say, it might be worth the hassle to slide down that steep bank on the N side just to bust their beads....

I agree with all about the hassle, but when I had free access there were some great days, especially early season with knowbody staying at the hotel yet, we could swing at them not swat at them, cold beers bye the river and knowbody around. He got canned so that spot is gone!

Yea, its a shame they never put any of that casino money into it. If I recall correct all those shack type rooms were gonna be taken out and a huge log lodge overlooking the falls was gonna be built. They were suppose to buy the papermill out and do the douglaston thing to the whole stretch.

Personal interaction over the years. Started one day at the falls. A friend (13 for all you oldsters) and I were lighting up the hole. He steps in less than 3 feet from me with his 12 weight with the extra fighting butt up the blank and starts ripping away at the salmon. Didn't bother him a bit that his rip hit my rod about every third or forth time but left me feeling while there were four letter words for him icon isn't one of them. Many other rude incounters later my views of him haven't changed.

I won't argue the point, there has been many controversial issues surrounding him over the years... maybe you caught him on bad days .... but i've known him to always share ideas, innovations, water and insight..anyway ..even though we've chatted over the years, still looking forward to the day we can fish together.. tight lines, OldSalt

Not a doubt in my mind he was,is, the most knowledgable and talented fishermen I have ever met. Tried a while ago and two things prevented it. #1 Time, why is it that as he said you work your youth away to make enough money only to find later on life takes your time away. #He tried to log on before I had contacted him and the board didn't let him in. I don't think he had posted since the board change. Maybe Salmo could look into it? PMs aways welcome if you need any info Salmo.
