nice picture; nice buck

Too often I get less than good pics and end up fiddling with them to get a better look.  I don't put bait out so they don't hang around long, I just make a scrape to get them to stop.   Many times, I run into where two trails parallel each other and I try to get both trails which causes dark pics on the far trail.  The cams I use are generally 3.0 megapixs so a moving target is sometimes blurry.   The above is a nice pic for a used $35.00 cam.   I'd rather buy a bunch of not so great cams than have a good one stolen.  I've yet to get burnt but with time on public land, it'll happen eventually.  Many times I can see the cams from the road but I camo them up the best I can.  Many of my setups are within 50 yards of the road considering the trails usually disperse as they continue on deeper into the woods.  Not to mention I run into one too many rattlesnakes.   I saw a buck the other night under the spotlight that the one above would fit inside his rack.  I went and hunt a stand today and only saw a black racer.     Lots of bucks this year with short tines, even older bucks.  Nice to get a hightine on camera every once in a while.

I'd shoot that old hog in a second, even with the larger antlered one close by.  Nice pics. Still waiting to get my first shooter on camera.

I set my cams to take another pic after the first.  It took 6 seconds later.  Must have passed thru or decided to turn around.  Some beach.

I picked up some cams today.   Not much activity.   Saw some green red acorns on the ground.

I was telling Darys over the weekend, he's the kind of buck that sits on his arse in the rut and grunts doe to him.   Not an easy one to fool, but a very huntable deer based on area, pressure, and typical wind.  I wouldn't be dragging him; he'd get the gutless method where he fell.

Best of luck with any of those. Old deer are, well, old.  Don't move much as you said.

You were right, that one is quite the brute with respect to body size.  Antlers, not so much.  Do you think it is an older buck on an antler decline or just good genetics for body size and weaker genes for antlers?  Obviously it eats enough.

My money is on an older buck past his prime. Heavy thick antlers with few points is my idea of a buck on the downhill slide. Looks more like a steer bodywise.

The first pic, the deer is huntable but very poachable if he is lives where I think he does.. on about a one arce bench just off the top of mountain. About 700 yards from where the pic was taken. Lots of pressure but no one goes up so they don't come down till after dark. Way too much pressure early season..I will look for a rubline at the end of October. The big deer is probably on the down turn. Could have always been 6 or less.. not many of them around where I hunt. Interestly, a buddy was hunting a huge 6 pt all last year about 2 miles from where that pic was taken. His rack was alot bigger than that however. He'da made the book as a 6. I've seen the same deer where I got that pic over where he was hunting. Hop skip and a jump for them. Be interesting to see if he ends up there.

Oh, he'll get it alright if given the chance.

Now the odds of him losing it off the drag rope right near the truck, that's another story entirely.

Harvesting ? Are we raising pumpkins here or are we KILLING deer? Is harvesting just a milder way of saying killing? Exactly how is a deer harvested anyway ? Is the language the hunters and the PGC using now days trying to not upset the antis ??? This a thread for hunters right, or did I click on a fairy tale thread ?

ha when you say it like that harvesting sounds worse, like we raise them in a pen just to die..never thought of it quite like that till just now.

OA complains about "Harvesting" and dpms posted TODAY .. I am painting hunters bad because I used "kill more deer"

Ole Doc can't win no matter what he posts some folks just have to "JUMP"
some folks just have to Betch at me about something or they have nothing to add to a topic

    this place is hilarious

Doc raises them like beef, feeds and names them. I heard he even entered one in the county fair and won 1st place. For him harvesting the crop for winters meat is probably the approprate term. Some just engage in fruitless pursuit of them.

I wasn't brought up in no city and I certainly don't hunt in the city. I KILL deer and I Kill other games as well. I don't mellow my language as to please the anti's and I certainly don't kiss anti's butts to make them more likely accept the hunting world.

And if you READ my post some times I use one and some times I use another has nothing to do with antis...

S-10 .. one year I won two ribbons .. I entered one male and one female.. but of course the buck was before HR and ARs ... I can't find any since HR and ARs hit 2F

I'm hoping next year I can get a fawn and hopefully with the help of the local 4-H club get it sold as "veal"
