Salmon

<er man
That  message apparently went to you at Fish USA Forums as opposed to regular E-mail.
Strongly suggested Mid October and to make your reservations QUICKLY as rooms can get scarce up there.
In  Oct most all species are well represented and the Salmon will have most certainly been coming into the river for  a few weeks and should be found throughout the river- especially upriver and in the Fly Zones. Any later they may well be on the downslide having spawned and started dying off.
Too much earlier may still be a bit spotty depending on the weather and river flow. Yes they are found  often in good numbers in  Sept but I have had some trips in the past where the big runs had yet to happen by then.
End of first into Second week  of Oct is always a good bet for Salmon, Steel and some Browns too..Just be prepared for the crowds and hope not to get blown out by weather. If I only had one time to make the trip it would be then.
You were interested in the Salmon size and happy to say that its not uncommon for them to be in the 20s though most commonly in the high teens.
Have a great trip- its a great place.

    Well-
There has been a tad of rain (bout time) and the temps this time of year drop a bit ( specially at night) and the fishies gotta run sometime  so it would seem that within a week or so a pod or two of fish will probably show up.
Gotta wonder how long it will take for IT to happen- you know- the big reports about that pod thing.
Funny how  IT always has to do with the thermomiter.
IT will be HOT or ON FIRE or THE PLACE IS LIT UP  on all kinda reports and then  John Q will take vacation  time and drive all night to get there.
Too bad the first thing he will hear at the tackle shop will be 'wellll theyr in the river' or  'maybee some down low" " or  'a little spotty right nowww" or 'shoulda been here yesterday morning'.
All  of which mean it got COLD while you were driving.
Bout the only thing it means to me is that I gotta start bringing my leaf blower every trip up from now on.

The guy on SC that tells his early season stories about "hooking" 60 a day at the Lower Black is the ultimate fisherman - can't believe he doesn't have a TeeVee Show.

haha - you can dangle a line & hook from a tree limb at that spot and 60 fish will hook themselves..

Yup. Hook with egg sac netting- the secret weapon of the Salmon River. They can't not eat it.

Hey guys please dont take my last as meaning there aint nothin goin on whatsoever noplace nohow at all ever.
Most of us that post here can go out and find one given time.   Likely most of us would be quite happy spending most of a day this time of year and finding and possibly hooking that ONE.
But that aint IT for most folks who tune in and read our stuff and wanna plan a fishing trip.
Would probably grow old for us too after a while. Now and then ya gotta catch fish.

Just read one of the Boating reports and it says the Kings are being found out in water from 120 to 180 feet. Kinda says it all for me.
Yep a scouting patrol perhaps here and there or maybe even a lost soul but NOT what we are waiting for.
Still comin up next week for a walk and stalk though. Probably scare out more darned snakes than fishies.

Just  checked the 10 day weather up there and see that it isnt much different than a month ago. Despite the recent wet weather the flow report is the same too. Thought it may change in our favor a few days ago but it seems Ma Nature isnt ready to give up on Summer yet.
Comin up anyhow next week but the low expectations are getting lower. Not tryin to sound all negative and crappy here but just seeing the reality.
The 'time clock' on the fishies will be going off despite conditions and something will undoubtedly start to happen in a bit.

btw - the answer was already given by the lake charter man Gottum - early Sept... if they had a Salmon Roulette wheel I'd drop my marker next to his...

Made some trips like ur talking about Retired in past years, didn't expect much, more about regearing and checking out the spots. Ended up being a day of staring at fresh kings with not another nay sayer in sight. This is the gamble before the silly season. Good luck if ya go

Completely agreed hook... not down playing any boat guys at all here...just commenting on the FACT that fish do enter the river that people don't see... and more than you think DONT DIE...a lot of guys think if they don't see any; there's none there... just my take on It.... the boat guys from their lake results get a grasp of what the MAJORITY of the fish are gonna do (and sure enough they are in the river at the right time in the right spot when THE RUN enters)... and I think that in itself is an ART of its own; I have nothing but respect for a seasoned captain.... I hope to own a boat one day and fall in to that whole different world of itself...

Btw; I heard some guys are catching kings with tight/empty stomachs

Also; there's no reason for anyone to debate over what i said; by no means am I trolling or looking to stir the pot. Just stating the facts

If I didnt think there may be a fishie or two around I wouldnt take my old butt out on a walk ( or stumble ) and stalk.
Last year bout this time had a nice pod come through the ballpark in the middle of the day   (very small pod as is usual for now) then nothing for another week or two.
Happens when it happens in August. Cant plan it, gotta stumble over it.
Facts is facts and the fact is that this is probably true right through early Sept too.

No, I readily admit that I need both legs on solid ground in order to remain upright - even the 2-3 foot waves get to me.. Tried all the sea-sickness remedies - NADA.

When I was in the Navy the put me on a small ship-thought I was gonna die the whole time. What stomach?
When I got my own boat - NO PROBLEMO-ever. And believe me the Sound and N/E coast can be a bit jumpy on occasion.

Here chew on this one. Just read on another salmon site that the small group of kings that were maybe seen in the estuary were seen moving thru the town pool. There that should have the same effect as viagra on the russians. LMFAO!

Yea -little pod here and a little pod there and a straggler or scout thrown in too.
Fun to hike and maybe find them - or one - or maybe just count the snakes.
Wait till DSR opens and small pods of Hos are running in and out every morning- cant wait for those reports.
