those flashback stones work well too DB,

first saw/used them from Mahoney's shop in Altmar,

used to trade a spiff for a couple of flies...

I use those little strips of stretchy vinyl for the schuck cover (have no idea what the material is called in FF language).

Tuna; im definitely gonna try to be up thrusday night... fishing friday all depends on my progress on the place. Regardless of necessary work that needs to be done; I always hit the water for an hour or two at first light...

For now; time to lay out a foundation for an addition that im starting...later...

Ps... bodyguard....lmao....

so, my son has been getting pretty attahed to my fly tying... to the point where he wants his own feathers... so him and my wife went to michaels and picked up some feathers... i was quite impressed with what they came back with... some nice webby saddle feathers in natural grey/brown, some nice maribou plumes and an assortment of dyed guinea breast feathers... check it out; i had to steel a few from him to see how they wrapped...

not bad for some feathers from michaels for next to nothing... right??? now, check this one out; look at the fly from the back in this one and try to picture the sparse yet uniform webbiness and color pattern here... looks like it may be appetizing to a nice chromer...especially when pulsating in the tail out of your drift

real cool, how old is he ? Keep him intrested and I have tons of materials for you guys to play with..

My 5 year old granddaughter loves helping me tie.. Yes I give her a vice and some feathers to tie..

If the economy EVER recovers and I become busy again.. I'll keep that boy in mind ..
I used to tie 500 salmon flies before each season. 100@ - 5 patterns..

tuna and salt; respect appreciated...

he's only 4 and a half... he has loved fishing since he was barely able to talk. fish was one of his first words... got a funny little story here... tonight i put the kids to bed and had a friend come by who is moving to england on saturday so we hund out in the back yard... earlier in the night i had tied that maribou fly up with my son... about an hour after i put the little guy to bed i heard him yelling out the window to me in the back yard. i went running in and thought he was scared because i wasnt there... i asked him if he had just woken up and he said NO; and then took my hand and brought me in the kitchen... he apparently was up for a while and went through all of his new feathers... he took a hook out and clamped it in the vise and carefully layered a few different feathers on to the hook and even managed to tie it off some how where all feathers were sturdy... he even managed to even put the thread spool on and suck the thread through the bobbin all by himself; he's a strong headed boy and very smart; i'm very proud of him for tying his first fly with no help/instruction or criticism... so here it is... tight lines guys

sweeet..be proud buddy, I'm sure you are. kids are amazing...my life basically revolves around them, got 3 all ages..my youngest...daughter started tying at around 6, she loves the colors...anyway it's not easy, I raise them as a single dad, but as you age and watch them grow, you realize that they are the most important thing in this world..

tight lines

So doubling up on posts but I took a picture of some of the materials I just don’t have a need for.. like said anyone is welcome to share if they want some.. This is a small pile sampling (didn’t feel like going upstairs).. I do have lots of flashabou,it's supposed to be a marabou substitute.. Basically it's colored tinsel and I don't like it but for just a strip or 2 to ad flash it's ok..
If there is something you are looking at buying from a shop, Don't .. You can have it..

Salt, I used to carry a big Plano box with about 200 flies.. Now Just stuffing the C&F box seems enough..
The feel good will come when I un hook a fish that was caught by my ties.. That’s what I dig about tying.. They don’t all catch fish but man when one does, it's a great feeling of accomplishment for sure !!!

Anyone wishing to share some water together in dsr mid (weds-thurs) week shoot me a pm.. I'm handicapped but sure we could play hard..

I know we have all had mistakes--but my 1st ? is WTF is a 4yr old doing running around the house w/o supervision ? Tying that fly is the very best scenario that could've happened.

I tried to force myself to tie some more flies today.
Still need to add some varied colored comets, a few more streamers and then some beadchain eyed flies in case the water stays low.
Tied 2 chartruse streamers and was a pool of sweat.
Here if the temps over 80 the humidity is over 90 and I can't wait for it to break.

Ended up changing some flie lines doing the splicing was boring but the sweat was bearable without the lights adding to the temp.
Looking forward to Thurs this week after around here anyways highs in the sixties with some rain. Hoping it holds true for the Tug also.

I stayed clear of all fishing gear & news today.. Got the room primed and ready to paint ceiling in AM, then hope a second coat in PM but this humidity is brutal..
I'm a day behind on my work here but things will work out fine..

As for fishng , takes me all of 10 min to get my gear in order which it will be by weds eve ..

now time for a cold one and watch the roundy, rounds in Atlanta.
For petes sake JR do something would ya .
My $$'s going on Harvick tonight..

P.S.
If they get to race... I hope .

I guess you're implying you're a better man??? God forbid a man goes outside in the backyard for a little to say goodbye to an old friend who's moving out of the country.... AFTER his kids are in bed... come on dude... I see you like treading in shallow water... maybe you should delete your post and re post it in the BS THREAD... SHALLOW...

Hey db, no doubt you know your kids better then anyone here behind this dumb computer..
Kudos man !!
My older grand kids (3 & 5) are pretty trusting that yea they may get into stuff but I don't think they will burn the house down.. yet..LOL..
The little 8 month old Marine.. well he is a hand full to say the least..

Your boy will be an expert tier before ya know it !! Maybe he could tie you up the next Salmon catcher and you show him how it will catch a fish.. Why not man, that would be cool.. Heck tell him I'll take one also for the 18th..

Yup this is pretty much.. B.S..

Hope your doing well there..

Extremely slow... fished friday afternoon with charlie and my father... nothing... saturday morning hooked 1 and landed it; only 1 other hooked with 10 anglers in sight.... slow... my father went down this morning and Hooked 4; he saw about 5 other anglers who all had a few hookups early... then it shut down... better than yesterday...I went down this evening and hooked a beast but he spit it as he turned through the white water... about 100 guys fishing from ballpark up above clamshed... another 30-40 guys in trestle... late this evening there were 10-15 boats as high as they could go in the center channel above rt. 3; ?????? Im anxious to see what the morning will bring... on a different note... smallmouths are still all the way up... caught some nice ones this afternoon and yesterday afternioon... now let me ask; is this an honest report....lol?????..... tuna and fichy; im no expert but I think you're guys timing for next week is perfect

Thanks db..
everyone knows there are a few fish in the river.. your report seems pretty spot on for time of year, water temps & flow considering there was no 750 release to stimulate more of them..

Was hoping to hear at least some semi-steady ones & two's but I guess right now you have to take what ya can find.. That being over night move ins then day holding fish..
I'm really wishing there is a GOOD rain the next day or even 3 would be nice..

Thanks again and keep us posted with the workman’s reports..

Dime, glad to hear the hookups. Did your friend get a shot? Your father's fish don't count- he's a machine.   Hope I get to fish with him again sometime.
