Have yet to hit one myself; but I did miss a nice push by a few days 2 years ago in drop back steelhead season. The past few years the lower river in late april have faired well for atlantics... good luck...

"They" tell a lot of stories bout Atlantics and I wont bore ya with my favorite SR tackle shop BS 'there are so many coming in even the kids are catching them' midsummer fiasco. Seems like they always pick the slowest time to have an 'atlantic run'. HMMMMM -gas- hotel- food-tackle etc etc--- As stated a couple here and there up in the big pools all summer in the UFZ. The Syrause paper did a story last year bout a Summer fly guy who fished for FOUR years and then caught his first one when the reporter came along for the story. Good man -he released it too. Dont get me wrong - its a great fishery and I love it but to target this species may be a bit tough. Go Steel fishing and just hope.

That size difference is good to hear- means there is repro and hope for the future- know the State is trying to make it happen. Just havent reached their 'tipping point' yet- hope they do so while I am still at it.

Many years ago they were trying to get a run going in the Sandys and I caught a couple about 18-20 inches long.I did n't even know what they were at first so I kept them for the table. After they were dead someone informed me what I had, they fought like heck and were good eating.Since then I caught many small ones on the UFZ but nothing in the adult stage.

Hey folks like I stated in the past threads about atlantics Myself or clients have caught a few over the years.. Definitely not targeted with only a handful picture worthy (over 5-lbs.) But have caught many stocked fingerlings in the spring and when I fished there summers.. After that they seem to disappear into the lake or what have you.. No doubt I have seen some larger but they are so few and far between.. The state used to use the Little S@ndy as their rearing program and closed off to all fishing from May till Nov I believe, it was (so long ago ) or some time frame.. I'm talking early - mid 80's , thats how long they been trying.. It was a bust by stocking programs and return rates that it was abandoned there.. Still the State is trying to figure out why they are not getting the returns there should be in any of the lake ontario tribs.. Some sort of Disease or parasite has now been addressed as a possible culprit (after all these years) and the current stocked fished are being vaccinated to prevent such.. Only time will tell if it is working and unfortunately LOTS & LOTS of $$$$$$$$... If it works that would be great but if not I'd hate to say it again but sometimes one needs to know when to throw in the towel and move on.. Now mind you this is for the Ontario tribs not across NYS where programs do work on atlantics.. They are frequently caught in the Adirondacks. We catch them often and in good size on lakes in the winter.. In many larger lakes throughout the ADK's the trib mouths are targeted from shore in the spring when the smelt run. Although poor returns from some Champlain tribs which there, lamprey is the issue.. Years ago we would fish the Ausable and Bouquet with some success but things have degraded about 15 years ago to a point we gave up. I have heard things are once again on the rise there.. Again NY has opened the lamprey control back up and you would be amazed at the thousands they kill off.. Sadly our brothers in VT are on the green side and don’t use or allow lamprey pesticides so it's our fight only against them... I'm sure way more then you wanted to here but.. That’s the story as I know..

PAFISHER- There were a number of very nice ones up in UFZ this Summer. They didnt bite anything I had - perhaps the 90/10 thing but they were great to watch and more or less readily available to see. Would suggest that most were the size of average Steel and some looked the size of an average Ho.--- soooo bout 6 to 14 lbs. They were NOT stacked up like cordwood but they were always there in at least a few numbers.

Drake You may be very correct that may be what I’m referring to as some sort of disease or parasite .. Honestly I didn’t write it down or take a bunch of concern because it's been such a failed program for so long (imo). lets hope they get thing heading in the right direction...

Tuna;i'll leave it at this, and only this; and please consider it a minor point: You can't deny that recent results in the past few years have proven that there is a chance.

Dime while I know you wont leave it there and I'll say I'll leave it here but that will be a fallacy too.. Things are no different then have been over the years as a whole.. Always peaks and valleys. Still way too soon given the recent findings .. Even by the experts standards.. And we all know they like to toot their horn when spending millions on programs.. Seriously, lets just leave this for further discussion when we are old, grey & sippin Jameson.. Shoot ! I'm already grey.. So I guess when you get that grey beard too .. Soon enough hanging on these forums.. lol

This is definitely a complete falicy developing here to say the least...lmao.... Lastly and truely; from my interpretation of the hatchery and upper stretcheds in the summer months since early 90's I AND I MEAN FROM MY PERSPECTIVE ONLY; I have noticed a difference. Can't deny the pods of atlantics that went back and forth from lake to as far as stair case area back in april of 2010... I promise i'll leave it at this... Ps... I have greys in my beard so feel free to continue... lmao
