You might want to consider Canada... A tropical depression hit one year on a Sunday, and ruined the fishing until that Friday for us. If you have the trip insurance, I'd consider using it. Chances are, there is going to be a lot of clean up going on next week. They may not even let you on Hatteras Island until mid week. That section of Pea Island is pretty notworthy of being covered in strong storms. Hopefully it isn't that bad. Sorry to hear, and hope for the best for you.

They evacuated Ocrakoke island this morning and they are calling for 10 foot waves tonight seems like things are starting to get bad. All the locals are boarding up the houses and preparing for it. A few locals i know said they are getting the hell outta here. We are leaving friday morning we dont wanna get stuck in this.

By the time this thing gets that far north, the storm surge will be pretty big. Doesn't take much surge to overwash the outerbanks.

I have one co-worker supposed to head to Atlantic City on Sat. and another supposed to camp out at Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware this weekend. They will both most likely be cancelling their plans.

The high pressures, one to the west over TX/SE US and the other over Bermuda are squeezing it further to the west than originally planned. The models are slowly drifting ever so slightly back to the West with each new run.

They still don't have a real good handle on where this one will ultimately end up.

NYC still may get walloped by this one.

That would not be a good thing for our economy. Just shutting down the refineries in NY and Philly alone are going to likely spike local gas prices.

I need to be in Raleigh Sept 13, 14, 15
Now to decide before or after for ocean trip??????

Changing trip to a week in California and fishing a few days off Baja might solve problem.
Last fishing trip the girl with me spent most of the day chumming water-nothing to do with clubbing in TJ night before.
All I caught was a bunch of Spanish mackerel-I don't like mackerel so gave it all to a Korean guy to make soup.

KAYAK find me a deal!

Staying at Days Inn San Yasidro CA instead of Hilton Garden Inn Outer Banks/Kitty Hawk(sisters choice) should more than cover airfare.
It is close to La Jolla where the charters dock and not far from Tijuana.

I would not pay $359/night even if Paris herself was my maid service

I'm sure plans will change daily as we negotiate.
Me fishing-her spa and shopping

Should take some more time and do a long range tuna trip out of san diego. A 200#+ yellowfin would be FUN!

Would love to be added to a tuna charter no matter what coast I end up on.

Bluefin would be even better especially if captain has permit to sell.
Belly meat for sushi is $400/pound in Japan
Put a half oz on sticky rice and get $50

From east coast shore or pier my target fish is pompano for the cooler, flounder and spots are next choices but a lot of others are good eats also

Grocery stores in Raleigh sell dry ice and it is fairly easy to find on coast.

Blue crab report??????

Nico wants to catch crabs-they have always been hit or miss for me.
Need to find my crab trap(lost a few nice ones on highway) and use a few hand lines with chicken necks.

I see several mentions of purchasing trip insurance.  I have never bought and have never needed it (knock on my wooden head).  What has anyone's experience been with it?  Were there hassles getting paid?

The poster formally known as Duncsdad

Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

Rental company just came by and was trying to get the storm shutters down, rusted shut. they said that its not to hard to get your money back if there is a mandatory evacuation. Fishing was dead today, not one bite. All week it was non-stop. Went for a walk on the beach about 1 mile and saw 2 houses with plywood . They tied all of the deck furniture down with 1/8 cord, was shocked they didnt just bring it in the house. Tide is about 2 ft higher than it has been, waves still about 4ft.

Good advice.  I just caught some YFTs out of Kona HI a couple months ago in June and had a blast.  Also caught a Giant Trevaly out of a kayak.  Didn't get any that were 200#, but caught 3 yellowfin ranging between 90 - 124#.  It was a blast and the 124lber took a half hour to get in with a 200lb leader and 100lb main line.  We had to change the leader after every fish cause they got stretched out and milky colored.  Here are some pics:

Sheraton Atlantic Beach - Irene
Live! ...from room 700 Here's Irene!!
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/sheraton-atlantic-beach---irene

I stayed here a few years ago just after a hurricane.
Last third of the pier was  gone and some of it was closed

They lost the pier again last night.
Glad we did not make reservations anywhere.

Latest plans are to go to Nags Head for a few days then up to Virginia Beach for a few days.

Might look for places for digging clams or find an oyster bed.

I see these guys reports all the time. They are extreame fisherman. They make good use of a Jetski not just riding around in circles. I saw one report where they have a fuel barge they take with them when they make long trips.
