Jumbo Perch

Just wondering at what size range are perch considered "jumbo perch". I fished one of the headboats recently for the first time. The Captain put us on perch, but the majority of perch caught by the whole boat were 8" or less in size. Is this typical of "jumbo" perch? The whole time on the water the largest fish caught on the boat by 30 anglers was just over 12". Only a handful of fish approached 11" for the whole boat. I guess I was expecting that 11" to 12" size would be the norm, not the exception. Was I expecting too much?

In my book a perch isn't a jumbo unless its 12 inches and up.

I do catch at least one every time out... Sad thing is I'll be making my second trip of the year this weekend

actually, what I meant was that everybody has a different definition of a jumbo, but when you catch a 12-15" perch the first time then you'll know

I know what you mean Bulldog it seems like this summer is just slipping away

12 and up would be considered a jumbo on our boat

Jumbo perch to me is sitting on a school of perch and consistently reeling up 11"-12" fish every time. With the occasional 14" or 15"er. 10"-9" fish are average and good at any rate. Smaller than 9" are considered peanuts to me and usually go back in the water unless their bladder is blown out. In which case they usually will die throwing them back in.

if you're amish, anything over 5 inches is a jumbo... anything over 3.5 inches is a keeper
