wow camden; take it from a native new jerseyan... camden is bad azz... i think they've had highest murder rate in the country for a few years now... dont forget about, newark, trenton, elizabeth, irvington, paterson, passaic... the list goes on and on...

for music, i actually just saw kid rock last week. ive never been a fan at all; i will admit that he has had some catchy tunes... honestly; after seeing him, i think i can say that he is the white james brown of the music industry today(keep in mind i did see james brown live about 2 years before he died and he didnt miss a beat) he is a phenomenal performer to say the least...

kid rocks band ws pretty stellar with a great mix of country, soul, modern technology, and of course metal influences... it was pretty frigggin cool to say the least...

Slayer since I've been married 8 years now I guess it was about ten years ago.
Started talking to some dudes while the stages for Warp tour were being set up.
Ended up being the local radio station and they gave me a recorder and full access pass.
Since temps passed the century mark that year I spent the day interviewing punk bands (umm and their admirers} and standing under the fire hoses spraying the crowd. Definately an interesting day. Those real fans are friendly as can be.

The Vandals, MXPX, Pennywise and Greenday shook it up but it was some local boys Rancid that headlined that year and took it a notch up.

No tour in the 60s when I was a teen.
Too many stages along with the Xgames type stuff going on to ever take it all in.
Definately keeps your head and ears on a swivel (hee hee I worked a fishing term into this thread the hijack is complete).

Must say I never got into any of the warped stuff. Now I like my guitars to scream but not really the vocals with no clue what the lyrics are.. Janis Joplin kinda gets on my nerves sometimes.. Granted not all bands are like that but at least the ones (cant even recall the names other then 1 was Misfits) I was dragged out to see..

Punk:
I would pass on most of it, the pioneers in my day such as the Ramones, Sex Pistols and later the clash really did nothing for me.. I was too busy following Jerry & Jorma around like they were the Pied Pipers leading the way ..

Kid Rock.. I do admire his take no **** , I'm going to do what I want to do but a lot of that stuff I feel may just be for publicity .. His music ? Haven’t listened to it really so no comment... I don’t listen to the radio other then 100.1 WDST Woodstock so I don’t get exposed to much commercial stuff.. WDST is mostly jam bands and indie music..

Rock On folks.. I'm BLASTING the Allmans while shooting nails.. gotta go...

Putting 25 years in either behind, running, owning, (or all three) bars I've been exposed (contaminated by the disco craze some would say)and have found that there is good and bad in all different kinds of music (originality goes a long way with me) except the disco thing.
The only good that ever did was fill the clubs with young wimmins (and I'll never fault that cause it made me some good monies for the time and the chicks were free).

Truefully I have never been a huge fan of the DEAD. Seen them 3 times and they spent more time tuning than playing or being repetive in there jamming.
That said I saw them at 2 of the biggest outdoor concerts ever put on and they themselves said they were terrible at both of them so by the time I saw them in an small setting (12,000) my mind may have been made up in advance.
I know that happened to me with Clapton,4 shows where he was either to drunk to play or didn't seem to care (heroin?). Gave him 1 more chance at Cmac because SRV was plaing also and he blew the shell off the stage.

Speaking of Stevie Ray a tiny club I was running had the Fabulous Thunderbirds booked when their agent called asking to back out because they were being offered much bigger clubs and pay.
He said Jimmy had a brother that would take their place and played a tape that was in affect Texas Flood.
Um O K we'll suffer some unknown. Opened to maybe 30 people and after the first break quite literally the police were having to keep people off of Main St that were trying to get close enough to hear. Idiots the stage was against the back wall.

llp30:
I have seen everyone of those bands many times over and went to the first moe down.. sadly haven't had the chance to get back.

as for Levon..
After he had the throat surgery he was playing with his barn burners every weds night at Joyous lake for a $10.00 cover.. Me & the wife went every single week for about 6 months.. That was the best dam bargain I have ever had and truly miss Joyous lake.. Seen some greats there..

Absolutely would be a pleasure sharing some water with you and talking up the jams..
BTW:
I did sound board for Jorma in 84>85 and have a great personal collection of recordings..

Peace & Tuna..

Since punk rock is getting thrown around I will add not all punk bands have sloppy screaming lyrics. The one I mentioned "bad religion" is actually a clearly understandable singer who falls towards the intellectual side of things. They actually started in 79 and still play today. The lead singer is quite an individual who is an ethics professor at cornell university... his lyrics are pretty brilliant and the band has released some great records.... I actually saw them back in 93 and surprisingly green day opened for them (before they became main stream)... wade; I saw pennywise and rancid as well... pennywise almost played a show at my house back in the 90's.... I use d to put on garage shows with touring bands.... the biggest act we ever had come through was AFI...

on theother hand; my appreciation of music is very wide and broad... and tuna; even though i am young I have actually seen the dead 2 times with jerry... the last time was a month before he died... bob dylan opened for them that show... traffic did on the first one I saw... and yes; I was a youngen at that time to say the least....

Nice thread we got going here...

Ah Dylan... Man I must say he puts on the most terrible shows I have ever seen.. The last and final time I will ever see Dylan was at Cooperstown about 6 or so years ago.. It was Willie Nelson (right after wrist surgery)opening For Dylan.. Willie SMOKED the show and most ppl were there for Dylan but started walking out after about 4 songs.. He was terrible..

Now Dylan & the Dead:
Many, many times have I seen these guys together.. The first being on July 4th 1986 at Rich Stadium.. Tom Petty opened and put on one hell of a show, then Dylan came out and played with them and it was OK, Finally the good ole GD did their thing .. That was a bruiser of a show..
Next was D&D at Foxboro in 87, Dylan stunk up the place but Jerry & the boys had him sit in on their sets which made it feel all right for him.

Then the 3 shows at Giants stadium.. 7/12/87 & 6/18 & 19/95 .. The 87 show it was hot as hell and they were trying to cool the crowd with fire hoses.. Sadly many ppl were breaking the plumbing off the drinking fountains just to get cool in the spray.. Really not too cool by me..
All of those shows with Bob nothing to write about..
I do have some video and the complete Audio of those shows..

Finally Bob Dylan did a tour with Phil Lesh in 2000.. Of course Phil was da bomb as always.. Things went south about 1/3 of the way into that tour and Dylan dropped off the bill.. Thankfully..

Bob I'm sure you had your time but sadly it was well past mine..

I was at 94 and 95 at giants for the dead... maybe I bumped in to you in the parking lot... I saw willie at Bethel 3 years ago with ray price and merle haggard... willie is awesome... believe it or not ray price had the best vocals out of the three... I think he died shortly after that show... the three of them came out together to sing the famous "crazy" ..... it was pretty awesome... willie opened with whiskey riv er...
edit; oh yeah; dylan sucked at that show....lmao

Tuna must say I agree about Dylan, seen him many times most bad but a couple really good. Dont ask the year but had to be 15 years ago or so, saw him at the stanley in utica, ny he came out in a black pin striped suit and just rocked the house. Everyone was at the stage nobody sittin. The Dead are my true love though, never got to travel and "go on tour" always have had a job but did see a couple few. Best show I got to see was july 4 1989, came out with bertha did a row jimmy, terripin, fire works at the end, the colors, my two left hands, its in my cd in the truck now and in my heart forever and there is a beautiful 3' by 5' framed picture of jerry over my couch in my living room to this day. Music is good for the soul!

I love Dylan.
The man was a genius and a voice (definately wrong word) for a generation in flux.
That said having seen him a handfull of times I would never have recommended a friend waste their money to see him perform!

One last word on Dylan. In 1980 I went to the Palace theater Albany to see Dylan expecting to see some blonde on blonde but instead got a sermon about being saved.. It was the strangest & shortest shows I had been to at that time.. Looking back on it though I guess it was one of the better Dylan concerts I seen..

Both Dylan & Jerry were created by God for dumbasses who were unable (or too high) to think for themselves.

If Jerry was God, he would have cleansed his faithful concert followers souls (and bodies) by tossing bars of soap into the crowd, then turning a fire hose on them.

Just bustin on you and the Peacenicks. HT..

Like you, I'd trust a dirty hippie before a manicured investment banker.

One thing 4 sure, I wouldn't mind rolling back the clock a couple of decades.

Right on Drake.. I just get all testy when the kind folks are in question.
As for turning back the clocks ? I'd rather not really.. I'd just like to see folks remember the simple things like talking to neighbors and sharing what you can.. Those were the good times indeed..

Good people of all types have pulled my butt out of the fire and the gutter. As I've gotten older, I try to give back whenever and wherever I can. I told a  talented young bass player that I had playing with me who wanted to go to Northern California to see what it was like , to walk into one of them hippy towns like Arcata and sit down on a park bench and play his bass with the God given gift  he was blessed with; and before an hour was out, he'd have a place to stay and food to eat. One of the happiest months of my life I spent playing on the street in Frisco. Every day I met amazing folk and got sheltered and fed.  I still have musician friends in Ca. that would give you the shirt off thier back without even asking your name. On the other side of the coin, I have redneck friends who are just as giving and good hearted. There's a whole lot of good people in this country. Fishin' here  ain't bad, either.

Concert story. First tour after Dwayne hit the bus. Manlius field house.
Someone counterfitted tickets so the crowd was at least double what could fit inside.
Before they opened the doors the crowd was surging back and forth jockying for position.
I'm a pretty big guy and I lifted my feet and was carried 5 feet to and fro.
Craziest (scariest concert I was ever at.
I was sure someone was going to be trampled.
I wasn't worried about me but some small guy or girl was definately in danger.
