TUBMILL RUN STREAM IMPROVEMENT

Tubmill Trout Club in partnership with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy will begin an 800' stream habitat improvement section where Rt 711 intersects Tub Mill Run. Thanks to the generousity of the GEN-ON corporation enabling this project to proceed by providing financial and volunteer support. This is the Conservancy's 10th project over the past 5 years within the watershed. Efforts to gain corporate support are beginning to flourish and we hope for a continued effort with present and new sponsors. This current project has yet to begin but will be completed by October 1,2011. Thanks for caring sponsors and strong backs of volunteers ! Tubmill's website has many habitat improvement project pictures. Things are happenin with T.T.C.

Tubmill Trout Club has received a generous donation for stream habitat improvement. A new corporate sponsor has been added to the ranks of groups interested in improving Tub Mill Run. The GenOn corporation, part owner and operators of the Conemaugh and Seward electric power generating stations has committed $20,000 and the labor of many employees this weekend. The chosen stretch of stream scheduled for habitat reconstruction is at the intersection of Route 711 and Tub Mill Run, near the Laurel Valley School campus. Starting Saturday August 27th the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, GenOn Corporation, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and Tubmill Trout Club will work together creating solutions for erosion problems and building stream habitat for trout and all aquatic life's benefit. We are excited! Having a sponsor like GENON Corporation is what Tubmill Trout Club has been looking for for many years. My knocking on doors seems to be paying off! I got a call from XTO Energy, an EXXON company. There very well may be another sponsor for Tubmill Trout Club's area trout stream habitat improvements. This weekend looks great for stream work. Clem's BBQ is bringing the chow for this event. I hope we get 10 people for every log we want to put in the stream.

Much was done Saturday. Volunteers numbered over thirty and that did not include the standard Western Pennsylvania Conservancy crew. What a great day for working in the stream. Two maybe three more days of work remain and should be finished wednesday and thursday of this week. This is just a start of many projects in the main stem of Tub Mill Run. Thank you GenOn Corp for such a generous gift and commitment to this and possibly many future projects ! Please go to www.tubmilltroutclub.org to see pictures of this event. It will take me days to create a page devoted to this event so check back.
