Eye tips

Well, I've been working myself to death this summer and I've only got the boat in once. (saved a fortune on bait that day) I'm heading up in the morning and taking my brother along. I want him to have a great day catching eyes he has been helping me and deserves it. Trouble is, I don't know anything about eyes this year since I haven't been fishing. I'm puting in at east street and going out to the point. Can anyone give me hot colors, lures, water depth? what has been hot this summer for eyes? Someone please help a guy out here. Thanks,

I only get up to fish for eyes a couple times a year also, but when I do I always manage a couple eyes on watermelon or monkey puke colored michigan stinger spoons. Seems like the fish have moved out deeper now. 60 ft and deeper. good luck

Go to east end angler .com he posted some numbers for the east side eyes. He gives pretty good info too.
I heard some people on the radio on sunday in 52 f.o.w. around the first couple of beaches off the piont were doing pretty good for some eyes.
I have been doing pretty good on bright color bare naked reefs with 3 oz in lines anywhere from 150-190 back off the boards. Purple, pink and double willow monkey puke harnesses have been hot too. If you are in 60 plus f.o.w. the fish have been down between 35-50 feet.
    Dipsy # 1.5 setting 95 to 115, 3 setting 120 to 150.

    Good luck

Well, we got skunked except for one little stray perch that hit a harness. What a bummer of a day. Still better than working though.

    Bingo! We have a winner...

Always glad to help when I can, just rarely if ever fish east of the nut. Heck, rarely if ever fish this year...

Ya I agree. I fish the east in the spring for Smallies and west in the summer for the eyes.

I was off the point and west down to past the nut. I always put in at the east side. I hate the nut, to many morons there trying to put in and take out. East is normally quiet. I tossed eveything at them. A rainbow of harnesses on dipsys, spoons, flat lining deep divers. Every color in the box, and anywhere from 35 to 75 fow.  Believe me, I covered all the bases.

    Thats fishing...
I was up over 4th of July weekend.. limited out both days in a short time.. been up every weekend since and my catch is getting pretty slim.. tried differant depths, colors, ect. but nothing like over the 4th...
One of my problems is that I fish alone.. only two lines out to try to find what is working.. and not enough experience to know if I should go futher west? maybe launch from NE and try the "mountain".. Go deeper, go shallower, differant color, differant lures..So many choices..So little time..

Ya, its a big pond and there is a lot of choices for sure. I get overwelmed some times too. I used to fish out there by myself, but anymore it makes me a little nervous. I have visions of fishing alone, and trying to net one and fall out while the boat is moving 2+ mph in the other direction. I'm always looking for extra riders. I can fish me plus 3 comvertably. Fell free to send me a pm if you wanna head out.
I think its gonna be way west tomorrow morning for me. With all this heat, I think were gonna see some big ohio schools finally!

Maybe I can get my school on tomorrow.

Stay tuned and don't forget the s.p.f.!
