Lake Arthur ?

I'm planning on trying Lake A next weekend for the first time. I was wondering where i could launch a boat. I just have a little 12ft john boat? didn't know if all launches were public or not. Any tips on trying for musky, also a first attempt!

Fish the weed edges with bucktails and jerkbaits in the early AM.  Once the hoards of sailboats (and boats in general) come out I will generally pickup and troll.

528, old 422, and Bear Run are the launches I would recommend.

I'm too impatient to target musky, and don't have the gear, so can't help you with them.

All of the launches, with exception to the boat rental, Watts Bay sailing marina (private side) and Davis Hollow marina (private side) are available to the public. Also a few small craft & windsurfing only launches, that are off limits to trailers and motor boats, but you will see that pretty easily. Not sure if I am missing any? Note - the Watts Bay and Davis Hollow have public launches as well... So a bit confusing unless you check them out. If you launch at either of the marinas, look for a bunch of boats stored and no parking lot, go to launch about 100 yards away with the parking lot! Both have boats stored in these areas too, but have a sign that says public launch.

Good luck. I'll hopefully be on the lake in about 15 hours.

If the night bite is done, that just means they are finding food at other times. Those pigs definitely don't ever stop eating. I'm getting excited to drag my knuckles and spinning gear onto my boat!!! Might even try to take along some live bait!

Thanks for the info. May try for some other species too like bass, pike, or eyes as the day wears on as well. Need a day out, 4 straight weeks of work since my last cast!

How do you target wipers? I just figured they'd hit on normal bass/pike/musky tactics?

The Alewife spawn sure seems to be closing out. I actually did fairly well last night. One Striper around 5lbs, several decent bass, and two Eyes. Not exactly a slammer, but not bad for a half hearted attempt this late in the summer. If I hadn't been too lazy to take the boat out, I think I might have caught a few more Eyes. They both hit pretty much as far out as I could cast. Even if I had moved a bit. It was a lazy night, and I stood in the same spot the whole time.

I know the alewifes are done. I know my uncles bud has been doing good for eyes and nice channel cats fishing the road bed in the day using crawler harness.
Target wipers; TROLL A BOMBER ANYWHERE
especially when you see all the alewifes jumping everywhere.

I was finally able to pull myself away from house work for a day on the lake. I hit the lake a bit later than I was hoping, but still managed a wiper and a walleye in the first 2 hours. Then looked for some panfish and some shade, since the wife and kids would be joining me. I found a nice spot with a few small crappie. I hit the beach with the family for an hour or so, then took them back to the crappie spot, and luckily a few still there. Enough to put a few smiles on their faces! Not the best fishing, but a great day out.

I'm yet to figure them out consistently. One thing that I did figure out, they are feeding on alewifes year round. If you can find the alewives, your chances of finding the wipers are much better. I think of these other fish as more of a waiting in cover (trees, weeds, ect.) and ambush. Where the wipers I think are roaming the lake in schools until they find a school of alewives and attack more than ambush? Although, I would guess that they probably use some open water structure to ambush from or attracted to these since other bait fish they will eat is there as well. The pure strain stripers are called rockfish, since they are found hiding in rocks for ambushing, so would guess some of these habits transfer. The only time that I ever hear of them in weeds and shallow water structure is during the night spawn, pretty sure only because the alewives are there then. Pretty sure they do some sort of ambushing then, hiding in rocks, ect. I don't have much knowledge of musky & pike, but am pretty sure they will be in weed beds, sunken trees, and other bass type structure (shallow and deep). I would imagine that open water type bass/pike/musky tactics would work? I tend to hear more people relating walleye and wipers together in tactics, with bass, pike and musky being a bit closer to each other in tactics.

I kind of had an eye opener last week. I think that alewife spawn at night in some places earlier than others. Where they begin early is the best fishing undoubtably then when that spawn is over prepare to move. Idk, anybody else have this experience?

    Well,
I know right now, you could catch all the wipers you want drowning worms more or less the entire length of the lake on the roadbed. Some times are better than others, but find the cloud of baitfish and make sure the drag is set for that initial bite then run from them

I hit the road bed, as well as a bunch of other personal favorites on Saturday. I didn't see many bent rods on the road bed, which was lined with boats. I'm sure there are days that people catch a bunch, but it isn't nearly the action of the night time bite. The biggest wiper that I ever caught on a worm harness was about 15". I spent about two summers pulling harnesses on the road beds, and caught maybe 3 small wipers and ZERO walleye. I did get a huge channel cat and a ton of bluegills.

Ya maybe 10 years ago before this RIDICULOUS pressure on this lake started. Oh well, we have stayed infront of the masses for years. Shenago before the Chauncy Charters, Wilhelm before that word got out too. So have at it boys. KILL 'em all the state will grow more, just sayin..........................

It's the same conversation everywhere. No one does theyr own leg work. No one puts theyr time in. Guys catch fish and feel the need to pound theyr chests and shout from the highest roof top. The interweb just made it easier for them. Whether this validates theyr fishing prowess or maybe they needed 20 more "close" friends, IDK. Whatever the reason, social media has DESTROYED the ART. And make no mistake, it is an ART. Atlest it used to be. Just sayin, AGAIN.....................

No, it's a craft. The objective of art is to tell some sort of a story. A craft uses many of the same techniques, but in a way to create something with some sort of function. Just sayin...

The road bed is no secret. Neither are the railroad beds, creek channels, points, sunken humps or just about anything a $10 Hotspot map will show that will attract the balls of baitfish. Line up boats at one, I'll likely try my hand at one of the other.

I'm not disagreeing with your point at all. I think there should be a bit more strict spot burn policy. Probably not a bad idea to push on the mods? It seems like most on here already keep things vague.

Personally, I try to stay rather vague. Enough to give a report and try to contribute a little to help others a little. I don't like to say exactly where I am fishing or exactly what I'm using. But will share thing general ideas, ect.

All we can hope for is burying posts like that with posts like ours...

If you have a boat you should be fine unless your trying to fish the unsecret spots.
Land and wade fishing is tougher to get those spots
