Allegheny River Trip Report 7-5-11

Hit the allegheny with my buddy rick on his boat (u/n Dickie) at about 3pm. We both have ben targetting eyes over the past weeks, and he claimed to have found a honey hole. We started trolling bombers, making small passes at a very specific spot. Hooked up almost right away on a few smaller walleye. Rick was dead on, you could almost garuntee to get a fish every pass. This went on for a few hours until the bite died off. Tried one other spot that i knew of and slammed smallmouth. Decent size too. We lost count after soo many and decided to head back to our origional spot for a few more hours. Landed a few more eyes including 4 keepers (we usually catch and release but after talking decided wed save em for a small fish fry) total caught about 12 walleye, mostly smaller ones...cant seem to find the bigguns. After the bite died yet again we decided to pack up and leave. On our way out we caught two small white bass and figured why not...lets fish for some flatheads! I broke out my big gear and we anchored off a decent hole we found earlier. Had tons of runs and in between bites chased the gar that were swimming around the boat all night. I hooked into something big and ended up landing my pb channel cat...put up a hell of a fight! followed by one of the bigger flats Ive landed in a while. guessing around 30 lbs. We called it quits around midnight and headed home. Great day overall and cant wait to get back out on the water! Im gonna attempt to attach pics of some of the fish (not all of em) that we caught throughout the day...

(Caught this guy while we were trolling!)

And the big guy...

We were making extra happy faces in the pics to jerk off our one buddy from school. We sent him a picture of almost every fish we caught.

Sounds like a great day to me.

Men and fish are alike. They both get into trouble when they open their mouths.

Yeah blue gill heads are my most productive flat head bait. Thanks for the info and congrats on the catches.
