I won't put my info on mine for that exact reason, then a thief knows where the rest of my fishing equip is and a number to call to make sure I'm not home. I've lost 3 so far but my newest spots have been theft free for almost 2 years

I thought that the PFC either changed that or are going to change that reg. to state that you could use your license # for that very reason. If they didn't, maybe we could push to get it changed. I am pretty sure that is the way it is for furbearer traps & cable restraints since they could verify the owner pretty fast with those #s. The best that you can do is try to camo the minnow traps. I have had people take turtle hooks, I hope that they got bit. lol Now that school is out there is a greater chance of theft. sam

if you dont want anyone to take your stuff dont leave it laying unattended in a creek somewhere. With no name or info on your stuff its fair game as far as im concerned not that i would take a trap or anything but come on think about it plus what if the game warden took it and has it now...maybe you should call them and ask.

Touching other peoples stuff is just not right, whether it is properly marked or not, unless it is the authorities. PS - Minnow traps are meant to be left unattended for some time.

But I'm smart enough to know not to leave something unattended in the water, especially when it can be taken so easily.

if it is sitting unattended with no name or anything how is someone supposed to know it is not junk or abandoned. It sucks someone took the trap. Even though they are meant to be left alone to catch minows leaving it on public property isnt how i would do it because i would expect it to be gone, living in the city has taught me not to leave my stuff laying around, its an open invitation to dishonest people. I go to the bait store and buy them if i want to use minows. I also have a net but havent used it in at least 10 years....nothing against catching your own bait.

Back in the day, we were taught to leave our hands off of things that didn't belong to us. Using that simple rule, it would be impossible to know if a minnow trap had someones name on it. That being said, I catch maximum numbers of minnows in 10-20 minutes, any longer is a waste. Empty and move the trap every 10 minutes.

This is almost like a worm box I forgot to throw in the car at Hydro#6 in Clinton Pa on the Allegheny I had my name and ph# on the box and haven't gotten any calls or messages because someone said "OHH A NICE BAIT BOX" >.> Owell my loss. But I would trap some where as close to my home as possible if I could help it or right by my work. But that's just me.

The way I see it, if its not a public place and you left it without asking, its tresspassing and littering. No different than hunting on property you didn't ask too. And to me and a few I know, its no different than picking up the cans, bottles, and other crap that gets thrown into your fields, without permission, its litter and tresspassing! On public property, its pot luck and I wouldn't trust the next guy who saw it to leave it there. Smitty

Do you really think a theif would spend time looking up all your info to go and rob your house when you're catching your own bait instead of paying a few dollars at the bait store? Not talking trash but I wouldn't assume that someone catching their own bait is swimming is the finest gear available.

I trap very close to my house and my gear is very nice... I'd rather lose a trap now and then than lose everything. Plus there have been many other thefts/ robberies in my area in past years.

Some people over thinking this. People aren't going to case then rob your home based on information left in a minnow trap. More likely if a thief wants to rob a home they knock on the door. If no answer they kick in the door and are gone in minutes with items far more valuable than fishing gear! Follow the regs and put some sort of identification on the trap. More than likely no one will bother it and if it does appear "lost" someone may call you.

Real thieves target minnow traps. Not only do you get 3 hours worth of bait, you get the trap which fetches $4 on Ebay. Win/win!

It was my dads trap not mine. Think he had it out for less than 10 hours. I told him to put it in at dark and pick it up first thing in the morning if he can't stay buy it, and he didn't.(He's stuck in the old days when he could just leave it out and it wouldn't get bothered.) Oh well, they're cheap. The rope to it was cut. Didn't try to stir up some debate, was more or less to just remind everyone to be careful, didn't want other fishermen to get their gear taken.
