Trapping Leaches
I've watched a few videos on you tube on how to trap leaches. I'm going to give it a try. Anyone out there trap leaches and want to give a few pointers I would appreciate it.

It can be hard to keep away the unwanted creatures, but a small canvas sack with a few pieces of liver works well. Tie the sack tight and the leeches with squeeze in through the fabric. I know of some folks who go after bigger leeches by punching pencil sized holes in the lids of coffee cans with bait in them.

Thanks Luvinbluegills. The canvas sack seems like it would be easiest. Does it matter if you set the traps during he day or night?

We used to get them stuck on us while we were crawling around hand fishing for turtles, but that was usualy in slower more stagnant water. You usualy couldn't feel them bite til it got itchy. sam

Do you use canvas or burlap bags? sam ORIGINAL: luvinbluegills It can be hard to keep away the unwanted creatures, but a small canvas sack with a few pieces of liver works well. ORIGINAL: DIKFER Thanks Luvinbluegills. The canvas sack seems like it would be easiest. Does it matter if you set the traps during he day or night? I've never left 'em out all day to compare with all night, but they are active during the day. Seems EVERYTHING catches more when out all night! :)

Hmmmm... it's what raw coffee beans are shipped in. I'm glad you asked 'cause I think it's actually burlap. My fault for confusing the two. I wanna try the coffee can method 'cause a lott of people swear by that and it would be less work protecting it from turtles.

It turns out that trapping leaches is easier than catching fish. I didn't have a coffee can so I used a planters peanut jar. I used a hole punch and put 4 holes in the lid. Used small piece of raw steak. Put it in a frog pond (no fish) over night. and caught 9 leeches. Went to East Brady Saturday morning and used 1 leech. I did not get a single bite. Fished for 3 hours and called it quits.

Keep the other 8, they will become valuable when Obamacare fully kicks in.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. The closer we adhere to the Holy Bible and the US Constitution (as it was written) the closer we get to the model that made America great. The great American experiment worked, human nature just got in the way.
