cast nets legal in pa?

any one know the regulations on cast nets in pa? i see the seel them at walmart but they also sell deer bait by the ton just wonderin cuz they would be prime for getting bait

    correct me if im wrong but i believe u can obtain a permit for using cast nets in certain state lakes and they have to be of a certain size limit..... other than that i dont know.... i know my buddy uses one in a farm pond to get some gills and shiners but thats private property so i dont know the regulations

    *EDIT- If you're talking about using a net to catch minnows, it's legal without a permit as long as the net/seine is less than 4 square feet in area.

    It's a stupid PA law but no, cast nets are not legal for general baitfish procurement unless you are using it for gizzard shad or alewives and only on the specific lakes listed on page 6 of the .pdf shown on the first link Pork posted and with that, you'll need a permit issued by the PFBC for each specific lake.
