Kids Fishing Derby Pic

My dad organizes a kids fishing derby every year for the Darlington Days weekend celebration. My 7 year old daughter successfully defended her previous two 1st place finishes by winning her age group again. She landed a 26.25" carp. She also caught a smaller 13" carp, but was able to hold off the competion in route to taking her 3rd staright title !  I was a proud daddy again ! It's a bad pic, I know, but we had other lines in the water and not enough time for a good pic. However my 5 year old was mad she didn't catch a fish, she lost a big carp (prob same size) and was upset the rest of the derby. I tried explainning to her that it sometimes happens and is just part of fishing. But she didn't want to hear it. She was mad until I bought her an ice cream after the derby. She won her age grouping last year and thought she would again, almost did...

PS: It's not fixed !!  We do get some stares and here some whispers cause she won her age group 3 years in a row and my dad is the oragnizer... But she is a pretty good fishergirl !

haha ! Thats prob what they are thinking... Nope, she just comes from a family that does a lot of fishing and have for several geneartions. Don't get me wrong, she is lucky to have won it 3 years in a row. But knowing how to properly target a certain kind of fish helps as well. 80% of people who fish catch less fish than the other 20% of people who know what they are doing. Most people had their kids using worms on BIG red & white bobbers and that kind of thing.... We targeted them by bottom fishing with the right bait. The other family that did well lives across the street from us and I fish with the dad all the time. They know how to fish, 2 of his kids won thier age groups too.
But we had over 50 kids this year and everybody got a $10 gift card to a sporting goods store, free hotdogs and pop. We also gave out over $2000 worth of prizes, rod n reel combos, tackle boxes, gift cards, cash prizes, fishing vest etc.....
It's just a good time for the kids to get out and enjoy themselves.
