Carp Attack!

While fishing Presque Isle from shore Saturday I caught a medium size bass. When I was reeling him in, even though he felt small, I could see a tremendous commotion at the end of my line, making me rethink the size of the bass I had on. When I pulled the bass up close enought to see clearly, there were three very large Carp attempting to attack the bass. Once close enought to see me the carp broke off and swam away. This happened several times that day. Has anybody run into aggresive Carp like these before. I always pictured them swimming along the bottom looking for food.

I would assume it just following the hooked fish to see if it cough anything up. You see it with largemouth all the time. There is no way a carp could swallow a bass unless it's really small. I've never seen it, but that would be my guess.

I've had carp nibble on my line before. Maybe you reeling in the line might have caught their attention and they saw it as food. Most likely, they noticed the lurer or the baited hook in the bass's mouth and made attempts to catch it. When ocean fishing, I've also had small sharks (dog fish) come up and nip the tail of hooked fish.

The spawn is on & they are chasing each other & prob. anything else that gets in the way. I have watched bass swimming with them also & think that maybe they(bass)were trying to raid thier nest. sam
