Indian Lake

Took my 3 yr old boy to Indian Lake last night to try to catch some fish. He reeled in his 1st bass.Hooked it on a night crawler for him, but he says he likes catching little fish better (bluegill, crappie). Crappie are all stacked up on the rocks next to the bank.Seen a couple nice size bass swimming around there. My question to those of you who care to share, is what could I use to catch one of those I carp I see swimming out there towards the middle. Never really targeted carp, so I do not know much about them. Just playing around till I get my boat and all my gear back. Thanks Chris

Metal....there was a forum about the lake a few months back.  I believe that was discussed.  The link is below.

It's much easier to catch the carp in the shallow then to catch them in the deep end.. In the summer there is going to be a bunch of us getting together and going to target carp, you should join us. Ed

you name the date and time and I will try to show up. I would love to catch one of those carp. Its been a while since I caught one....do you let your bait set on the bottom, or do you use a bobber?

Corn, bottom, shallow end, hair rig, bolt rig. That is all you need to know!
To answer your PM, the conditions at the lake don't change much with rain.

I know that you are joking tull66, but far too many people tend to do the wrong thing or take things the wrong way.  Please keep the fish or safely release the fish for someone else to enjoy catching, regardless of species.  Unless it's a snakehead of course, which you guys don't have to worry about.

I actually laughed out loud in my cube at work when I read this.  The Boss asked me what was going on.  That would be a heck of a log for a rollerbladder to get past.

Hey BigE, what i like to do it catch them, throw them around alittle bit, leave them out for about a hour, then put them back. If they live they swim away, if they die then i keep them . If anyone takes us serious they can bite me.

wow........well, I have no use for carp or any fish for that matter, so all my fish get returned to the water. Except for the bluegill, once in a while one of those guys are sacrificed to catch a catfish. Anyone planning on heading to Indian lake this weekend? Im getting my boat out of storage tonight, so depending on weather and water conditions, I may go over at some point this weekend to try my hand at a carp.

Metal.....I don't think you can use a boat on that lake.  I know that's how it used to be at least.

everybody always targets trout or carp there so i like to mix it up because the bass really dont have anybody going for them, that crappie was actually caught on a trout line and a that bass only had one eye

FNB, I have watched many fishermen circle the lake tossing lures for bass.  I don't see many caught, and I also don't see many swim by me.

I've seen many bass in there swimming along the rocks and caught quite a few myself.  I've never personally caught them on anything artificial.  Normally a worm on a hook does just fine.

I live 2 blocks away and have never seen/caught enough to motivate me to target bass there.

Tull...I never targeted bass there, or anywhere else for that matter.  I just happened to be fishing for whatever is there and have hooked into a few.

I've caught some there, was just sayin', in my own way, it is a poor bass lake IMO.  Maybe we all define "good bass lake" differently.

It's a big bass lake gotta be 15" to keep anything.. When we did a study there last year they found some decent size bass but no numbers. There are a couple twenty inchers swimming around still. Toss a top water popper here in a couple weeks you will get some action. I went carpin on friday night. no luck still early. Ed

your right tull, its not somewhere where you can catch a bass limit day after day. but when my buddy is trying to hook up with stocked trout i prefer to circle the lake and more often then not ill hook into a few bass on a thirty minute stroll.
