I floated down in a kayak because the wife bailed on me. Went from whitset to west newton. I caught a small rock bass off a spinner and that was it. Usually I bring/use some form of live bait but I didn't want to be bothered but a few hours into my trip and I was regretting it. I was using a crawfish crankbait a few topwaters, a variety of spinners and a few plastics. If anybody is willing to offer me some tips I would appreciate it. I'm still fairly new to fishing rivers.

What you used should have gotten you smallies. I've had days when nothing worked, even dragging shiners for 6 miles.

I even had out the fly rod and was using some woolie buggers. I guess the bite just wasn't on for smallmouths.

Was out in the kayak yesterday also and worked hard for two smallies. Used a 2 inch rapala along with a popper. Great day on the water.

I havent had a chance to get out yet, has the Smallie bite picked up? Taking Pops on a float trip next weekend, his first float and first time for smallies. Hopefully I can get him into a few.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. The closer we adhere to the Holy Bible and the US Constitution (as it was written) the closer we get to the model that made America great. The great American experiment worked, human nature just got in the way.

I've only fished the Yough one time (right under Boston Bridge) and didn't do any good because it was just after a rain. I'll be in the area for the next 2 weeks house-sitting. Anyone have any useful info to share? I've caught a few big smallmouth over the last few weeks so I'd probably target them. Looking through the thread I've picked up on using twister tails...which I have. Thanks in advance!

Didn't look horribly bad at Sutersville but it was pretty muddy at the confluence in the 'port....

Fished the river yesterday evening (7-6-11) and the water was great, caught a few bass and my buddy caught a nice sauger.

Did a quick wade at Cedar Creek Wed. morning. In about an hour and a half I caught a handful of Smallies, a few 12-14" and a couple smaller. Spinners and tubes in various colors didn't produce, but small Rebel craws did right near the mouth of Cedar Creek. Flow was a little on the quick side, depth was good, and it had a slight stain. Hoping it clears and the flow slows down just a bit more for my float on Saturday.
