First Day of Trout: Where ya going?

since everyone needs a valium or two, let's all take a deep breath, sit back, and enjoy hearing what others are doing for the annual opener, whether that is two days for you lucky suckers out east, or one... taking the kids, wife, whole family? What are you using? Camping? Drinking? If so, what?  If you're so cool that you avoid the first day of crowds or hate trout fishing, we wanna hear that too.

I for one, will be on Oil, at the Petro-center hopefully chasing rising fish the night before the western opener with afoaf, a fellow guide, and the next day on Tionesta with my father if conditions so warrant.  We're finally shelling out the dough and getting a cabin somewhere in the area.  I'm coming after you DT.  I'm a little upset the stocking of the dhalo is later than last, as the fish may not be acclimated to aquatics just yet by then.  Hopefully Bings will give us a nice report since no one else posts pics on here anymore.

If flows aren't ideal, I'll be local, fishing the morning with the wife, and toasting the season of stockies off with a few busch light camo pounders.

Bedford CO with the biggest nitecrawler I can find. No crowd where we fish, just our group. Fish till 11:00, set up the stoves, fresh trout fillets, deep fried, all the fixins, clean up and relax till 2 or 3 then put the fear of God into the fish till dark. Friends come from 3 states to be there.Bout 20 or so arrive with 8 kids or so included.Teach them rite, make certain all is cleaned up and the landowners are properly thanked; at least 3 land owners participate in the meal.I just use a disposable camera or would post some pics.Don't know how to do it myself...WF

opening day on s. branch of french creek...been the tradition for about 15yrs...used to catch 50-60 each until they dropped the numbers stocked considerably...still catch about 20 each on live bait and single eggs...plenty of nice areas if u are willing to bust a little brush...fish comm puts some nice breeders in but i wish i saw more returned to the water after being caught...people just like seeing a big fish on their stringer...cant imagine that those oversized stockies tasitng any good

Still undecided.  I would like to head back home to north-western Potter County to relive some of the first days of my past.  Depends on if I can convince my best friend to buy a license this year.  We used to hit a medium pressured small stocked stream for the first couple hours.  Then take a break for breakfast and go after wild browns for the rest of the day.

I'm open to other possibilities in case this one falls through.  Wouldn't mind trying out other places closer to Erie or maybe ANF.

day 2 alyway sees the sunrise on upper elk to have a shot at a steelies and with about a million stockies around to keep you busy until the sleepers-in show up...being out early always nets some great wildlife also...saw a couple bald eagles the last 2 years on day 2 at the same spot...hoping to see them again this year...its almost better than catching fish...almost

I will be stream side, but will not be fishing.  I am helping with a local fishing Derby for kids.  Our lodge has been doing this for 5 years now and it is a blast.  The kids fish in an area just for them and we measure and record their catches and in the end give out prizes.  Lots of smiles, lots of happy kids and parents.  We also have sweet treats and hot chocolate....  How can it get any better than that....

Probably go over to Elk and catch my limit (-1) early, then take said limit (-1)over to Walnut and find the flattest place below the bridge and set up with my line in the water and when anybody dumb enough to fish the Nut comes by I'll hold up the stringer (yellow rope) and tell them I only need one more and watch them go nuts.

Knew a guy that caught a skate over the summer at the ocean, brought it home and froze it, then roped it up for the trout opener at some crowded spot.

As for me, I'll either catch trout all day and never see another two-legged soul, or fish for panfish.

Just a friendly Christian reminder for some of us/yous/yinz.

Alot of times fishin.... aint about the fishin....that u care about anyway.

I absolutely hate opening day of trout.....but my buddy expects me to be there...as I've been for 5 years. I'll throw my hardware.....I'll yell at the canoe that parked in front of me.....I'll be ****ed at other duuds with my buddy for their "lack of experience"...and I'll have a blast....watchin my buddy have a blast......those days are important......moral to the story.....

Don't take your fishin budies..... or thier enthusiasm for a different style for granted. Hang out with your buddy, your son, your daughter,  your brother, or your dad...even if it aint your gig....it's about the time.
