ice off conditions

I'm sure this question has been asked before but I could not find any old reports. I'm planning to fish Steelhead Ally this weekend and the high temperature during my four day trip is 30 degrees. I'm sure significant icing will occur on my guides so are there any de-icing techniques that work better than others?

I've heard to try cooking spray, chap stick, petroleum jelly, Loon's Ice-Off, Rain-X window washer de-icer, lock de-icer spray, teflon spray lubricant, and so on. I've also heard that it really doesn't matter what you use if the temp is below 32 degress, you're going to spend time removing ice from the guides. Many might suggest just staying home when the temp is below 32 degrees but that is not an option.

Any suggestions from those that have tested the above techniques on what works or doesn't work?

Once the sun comes up over the tree tops, you should be ok. I have found when the sun is over the tree tops, the magic number is about 28 degrees. I would suggest waiting to head out until about 10am when the low is around 15 during the early morning hours. Good luck

Ice will build up when the temperature is low and I have tried a ton of things to prevent it.  It just happens.  As stated, once the temp is up around 30 or so, it is not too bad.  The cold feet and hands on the other hand...  that can be a problem for me unless the temperatures are in the 40's.

Nothing really works too well. Someone needs to invent a rod that not only heats your guides, but the line too. Batteries could be fitted into the reel seat. Skip, get to work.

buy a can of cooking spray and bring it with you if you're coming mup... you'll be fine.  Temps in the 30s doesn't mean much unless you're fishing at night, come mup... have fun... bust some ice off your line, creeks should fish just fine

all the items u mentioned will do just fine...i prefer to just thump the ice off as needed with my fingers...its much more cost effective and keeps people from asking why u r putting chap stick or cooking spray on your equipment

It's not how deep you fish...It's how you wiggle your worm.
