Sat's Motherload of Materials

Since I didn't have much planned for the weekend - on Fri. night I checked auctionzip.com to see if there were any auctions in my area. I typed in "fishing" in the search and found one that had tying materials listed - kind of unusual. So needless to say - I went on Sat. When I walked in - in addition to all the jewelry - there were boxes and boxes of materials. Full capes, dubbing, hooks, books, turkey, hairs, lots of stuff. Couldn't believe it all. Problem was though I screwed up because my wife had the debit card, I didn't take a check along, they didn't take credit, and I only had $57 and change with me. Either way - I did pretty good.

All total spent - $53.46 - which left me enough to buy a hot dog and a coffee at the sale!

Check out that auction site - you may just get lucky and be able to save some $$$.

And there's one more box of stuff that's not shown here!! - threads, chenille, ect.

I was at an auction near Chautauqua lake at a sporting goods store that went out of business a few weeks ago.
It was probably the worst run auction I have ever seen
Items were brought up and sold by item number
This is is not that bad if they went in order or if my catalog matched the NEW #
There were a lot of things I wanted that sold for much less than I would of paid because I could not see the item.
The blue army and their wives and 20 kids took up most of the seating and isle space.
Around the middle of the day they started selling clothes and people started to clear out and I took a break to moved my truck closer and sit down for 20 min
I came back in and got a seat in the center of the action and bid on almost half of the items.
Fly tying materials went in box lots that were fairly cheep- I guess that the Amish that were still there don't tie many flies.
I did not bid on this stuff because I have no idea what it is worth but now wish that I did.
Ammo was selling for more than current retail?
Higher priced items went very cheep but that is what I missed at the beginning
I could buy the Penn spinning reels much cheaper than what they sold for

reminds me of an auction that happened down here. Auctioneer held up an old, round leather case with a zippered top on it. He shook it and said: "Looks like we have some pool cues here, buy 1 and you can have them all for the same price!" Of course I couldn't believe my ears since I had been hovering around those cases since morning. Pay no attention to the "House of Hardy" emblem embossed on the cases. I actually had one guy ask me if Hardy made a good pool cue. when the bidding started there was finally one guy bidding against me and he was going up at .50 on each bid, that's right 50 cents. So I finally just told him they were going home with me. Yep 4 old bamboo rods for $15.50 EACH. But they're soo flexible I can't shoot pool with them.
BTW you made a nice score! If you really like tying stuff I'll pick some up if I hit any good auctions. Not many folks tie, or fly fish down here.

Last year I could of bought a milk crate filled with capes for $20
I purchased around 30 other hunting, fishing, camping and truck items and somehow they were never rung up-probably forgot them upstairs
I have made some big scores at some sales lately
    25c item sold for $140
Bought 3 pan handles for 25c, sold the first one for $15 and #2 is at $10
Auctions and garage sales are like an addiction to gambling.
I buy odd items that sometimes I have no idea what they are worth, sometimes I do not even know what they are.
Bought what I thought were large wading boots Saturday
They are actually Koflach size 9 1/2 ice climbing boots without the liner
With the liner they sell for around $85 used.

Just this minute I sold a $2 antique cast iron electric waffle iron for $25
Update 2 minutes later: sold to someone in Switzerland that has already paid $60 for shipping

4 of the others that I can't even give away went to Goodwill last week
They all work and might last another 50 years

Talk about a good find!!!!! WOW!!
I had the same thing happen to me too Indy...A couple summers ago when I was off work for my shoulder surgery, I went to a sale that was selling some fishing stuff. There was a aluminum rod tube in the corner. Inside was an Orvis Midge bamboo - like new. When it was brought up - the auctioneer thought it was empty and noone checked. I got it for $20.00. Everyone must have thought I was coming down with the flu because I was sweating and my glasses started to fog up since I felt like I just robbed a bank!! My wife was even proud of me......That's one I didn't have to sneak in the house.
