I fished the Mon(boat) in New Eagle/Monongahela Friday afternoon til dark. I saw tons of places to fish from shore in that area and well up river. TONS! Struck out on the eyes but caught plenty of smallmouth, drum and cats. I had a rod rigged with Gulp minnows/jig and the other with Slimers/jig. I caught every fish on chartreuse Slimers. Someone needs to go with me and show me what I'm doing wrong on the eyes.

I have a bachelor party saturday that is starting at 10:30AM at riverside renegades which is right by there so I think I might go down early and fish that spot. I haven't had much luck so far this year. Just waiting for my luck to turn.

I have a lazy question that is kind of related. Is Redstone Creek near Brownsville fishable? I drove past it the other day and it didn't look too bad from the road.

I know Redstone Creek runs clear up to Uniontown.I think there is alot of bad water that probably goes in there in between. If you find anything out let me know. I'll do the same. (in reply to nightwolf) Post #: 218 RE: Walleye fishing the 3 rivers - 6/8/2011 11:22:53 PM

Put in at 18th St. ramp in the 'Burgh. Fished for about 3 hours and caught 3 REALLY nice 'eyes (20"-23") on chubs. the coming storm ran us off. Released all the 'eyes, doubt that they would be tasty from that part of the river. For some reason, the smallies do not seem to be as plentiful this year--maybe it's just me.

I finally got my boat in marina on sunday, sadly wife wanted an open bow so its not the best for fishing. It does have a depth finder at least. So I brought my rods of course, just forgot my box of jigs, all I had was a 1/8 oz and 1/16 oz that were on them. Fished around pine creek with not heavy enough jigs and shiners. Landed a channel cat on first cast and a small mouth later that day. I missed a lot though, just couldn't feel anything with the high winds and light jigs. Haven't had really any walleye success, not giving up though. I can't really troll with that boat so I just bounced jigs, the best I could with gear, with the boat drifting. Might have to take out the 14ft. aluminum and do some trolling.

The catching of all species on the Ohio has been excellent for my son and I for the past three months, even when the river was very high. The smallies this year have been exceptional. Biggest predator so far was a 12lb. hybred, what a battle in river current, it took a while for it to be able to swim off on its own, and it lives to fight again

ORIGINAL: wil330 You can try the area across from the Waterfront. Crossing bridge from Homestead into Pgh take the first right. Turd Hollow! Be careful if you wade in that area. There is a CSO right upstream from the creek. Any quick rain will release the nasties. Have witnessed a few people caught out there during a release. I tried wading a bit too early after a storm once. It sucked... My rule was three days minimum after any sort of rain. I haven't fished that place in a few years, and don't really plan on ever going back! There is some good fishing there though at times. White bass, hybrids, walleye, sauger & small mouth make their way around there. My best fishing was always in the Spring or Fall with the water temps around 60. If you are only a few minutes away, it makes for a nice "fix" water, when you only have a few hours for fishing.

From the PFC website posted today: The bite is on for the Allegheny River anglers. Catching of bass, channel catfish and walleye have been reported and observed up and down the Allegheny River. Hot spots seem to be almost anywhere between Lock 2 and Lock 3 on the western shoreline. Hot bait are liver, minnows and worms.

Just got back, terrible day, caught 1 walleye 1/2" shy of traveling my digestion system. Trying to beat the rain, we went around the point to return to the boat launch(southside) and was stopped by the US Coast Guard. I thought holy crap, who saw me drink a beer? I was informed the Mon was "closed". I laughed and said "Why did you really stop me?". The Coastie said again the Mon was closed. I thought to myself they must be searching for a body. I asked why is the river closed. They said Obama was in Pittsburgh. I said "One more thing to hate about Obama". The Coasties laughed and said "We feel the same way." So I head back up the Allegheny and make a few drifts waiting for the Mon to re-open. 10 minutes later my son and I caught something in the middle of the Allegheny, near the convention center that I guarantee nobody here has caught fishing anywhere. I can't post pictures until Monday, but look foward to the guesses. If anyone gets it, they will win an all expenses paid day of Mon river fishing in my boat.
