A ton of people fishing. Most of the popular shore spots were filled on Friday night, with boats on just about all the open water. Fishing was pretty slow for us. The bait showed up around 11, fish didn't show up on the surface for an hour or so, and very far and few. They seemed to be on the South shore on Friday. I was on the North Shore, but could hear them across the lake... Check yourself for ticks after you get home! They are out in full force this year.

Thanks for the tip! Hopefully this "dry" heat wave will stir things into better action. I just hope that I can get out there before they quit for the night.

I have only been up twice and between me and my bro I would say our average wiper has been about 16". We have mainly been using alewives though and only caught a few on plugs. No eyes yet either. I guess we are fishing the wrong spots

This last weekend was nuts. Friday every spot but under the 528 bridge was taken. Me and a buddy spent all day catching creek chubs. I landed a striper in about 10 minutes, and a channel cat about 10 minutes after that. Then my buddy caught a largemouth, no size, but still a good fight. He handed me his spare pool and went down to grab an extra minnow and he had a hit I set the hook and he turned to see and kicked all our bait into the bucket . We got his fish in and it was a walleye so we did hit the cycle in about 45 minutes. But for future scenarios, if this were to happen again, how is the general feeling, if a man asks you if you'd like to make $10 catching a dozen alewife for him?

ORIGINAL: SevenMileShowcase how is the general feeling, if a man asks you if you'd like to make $10 catching a dozen alewife for him? Not worth the fine IMO. Besides the one my cousin caught (around 18") and the 15"er that I netted in a cast net, they have all been in the 24" range +/- an inch or so. I have only made it out three nights though.

Okay wondered if they're was a fine figured there was. But last year when people would leave they'd give me their alewife. Besides a couple little guys our average is probably 22+. Biggest being about 30 maybe 31. Our scale stops there. It was just tad bigger. Smallest was 14

Haven't been striper fishing yet this year, but the walleyes are nice so far this year. Although I did get a 25 incher that was as thin as a sauger. It was wierd. Not a fan of these sunny days. Gonna have to deal with surface lilly pads after dark now, I'm sure. Bombers and lilly pads don't get along.

How do you fish creek chubs? Do you fish them with jigs on the bottom or under a float? Might have to try that if someone could give me tips on that.

I normally hook my creek chubs behind the dorsal fin and toss em out deeper past the alewifes, unweighted. Other wise all the cats get em. I dont tighten my line to the chub, leave out slack so you know when your lines tightens and starts going in different directions its a gamefish.

Didn't get out until 1:00am Saturday night. Saw a shore fisherman carrying two nice eyes when walking back from parking the trailer and thought things looked promising. Talked to a guy bring his boat in while we were launching and he said that they were smacking and they were when we got to the little island. The alewifes were active as I'll get out and indeed the stripers were feeding on the other side of the island from where we were. The problem was that there were already three boats hitting that spot. We motored to a couple of other spots with no baitfish action whatsoever. When the other boats had vacated the island, we went back and the bite was totally over. That was about 3:30. Oh well, we'll get them in two weeks.

Safety Issues Prompt Complete Drawdown of Glade Run Lake Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is alerting anglers, boaters and the general public that it will completely draw down Butler County’s Glade Run Lake amid new concerns that a partial drawdown will create safety issues for anglers and may lead to a high rate of mortality among remaining fish. “After examining the overall depth of the lake, we decided a partial drawdown would create too small of a fishing area and would require anglers to walk through a significant amount of muddy and unstable land just to reach fishable waters,†said Leroy Young, director of the PFBC Bureau of Fisheries. “Also, it’s likely that the combination of shallow water and high summer temperatures would lead to high mortality among the remaining fish.†PFBC biologists started a partial salvage late last week by electrofishing and moving fish to North Park Lake in Allegheny County and Lake Arthur in Butler County. A second salvage will be conducted within the next several weeks as the lake continues to be lowered. The lake is currently open to anglers, but they should use extra caution when fishing from the shore. Boaters are advised to use other facilities since the lower water level will make it difficult to safely launch a boat. The PFBC started lowering the water level on May 24 in order to alleviate pressure on the lake’s dam. A routine inspection in mid-May discovered that seepage underneath the dam had caused erosion beneath the ground surface, prompting the decision to draw down the lake due to safety concerns. The 52-acre lake was built in 1955 and is managed by the PFBC on behalf of the Commonwealth. In 2002, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) declared the lake’s dam unsafe and placed it on its list of “high-hazard†dams. The PFBC estimates that it will cost $4 million to reconstruct the dam’s concrete spillway and reinforce the embankment, but the project is currently unfunded. The PFBC manages 16 high-hazard dams on behalf of the Commonwealth, but it does not have the funds to repair all of them. More information about high-hazard dams and the funding needed to rebuild them is available on the PFBC website at:

Hey Chris, You guys still getting them at your end of the lake, or have you moved closer to the main lake. I'm gonna take off on Friday, so if you're up for a Thursday night trip, pm me.

Sat night was looking to be a good one. Storm missed us for the most part, caught 3 LM, but no hybrids. THEN the cold front hit the switch and the fish went home for the night. Rumor on shore was that somebody landed a real nice musky over at 528, did not see it though.

We did well Thursday and Saturday using flies. Tossing into the thick of the lily pads produced some nice Largemouths that must've been in there a while because they were much darker green than the LMs I caught in open water.

The Moraine musky assoc. had an outing yesterday, a 47" and 43" muskys were caught. My partner managed to boat 3 pike trolling, a 30,32 and 36" along with a nice 25" catfish. We had one other fish rip some good line out but lost it. Most action i've had ever trolling the lake.

Your not kidding it was windy, it sucked I would rather fish in the rain than the wind. I also caught a couple nice LMB. Switched to trolling for eyes around noon had a nice eye on but lost it at the boat.

The Porktown Horny Alewife scored it's first wiper on Friday night. Grabbed another nice one on a different lure, and two small ones on alewifes. Alewifes were everywhere. Almost too much bait in the water. Not much paying attention to a single alewife right now. They definitely seem to be keyed in on the suface.

Got six eyes and two stripers from 11-3 today. Daytime walleye bite seems to be picking up. Hope these storms the next few days don't screw it up. All on worm harnesses, 13-16 ft of water.
