Another Hex

Was feelin under the weather today - called off and spent the morning at the bench to get the mind off of it. Thought I'd put up this tute. Another hex pattern:

1. Hook : Daicchi 1870 size 10.
Start the thread and wrap to the rear bend of the hook shank. Create a flat body by tying on two pieces of .035 lead wore on both sides of the shank. Cut/taper both ends prior to tying in.

From the side after wire is wrapped in:

2. Tie in the goose biots and a piece of thin silver wire.

3. Cut a slip of turkey tail, coated with hard as nails - tie this in.

4. Take the aftershaft feather off of a pheasant breast feather and tie this in. Careful - as the stems on these are somewhat fragile. Then tie in a piece of tubing. The tubing I used here is filled with baby oil - called Liquid Lace.

5. Wrap the lace forward - tie off. Then pull the aftershaft feather up over the lacing and tie off. Follow with the turkey slip - then palmer the wire front - securing the body materials.

6. For the eyes - you can use anything you want for this but just in case you've never tried it...cut a piece of 20 lb. test mono, insert two glass beads and melt both ends. Paint the melted ends black, then epoxy over the beads and melted ends. Here I used Clear Cure Goo - a bit faster in the set up time.  Tie in the eyes by figure 8 wrapping them. Then tie in a slip of turkey tail coated with Hard as Nails.

7.  Twist a dubbing loop filled with hares ear dubbing.

8. Wrap the dubbing loop to make the thorax and tie off in front of the eyes. Fold the turkey slip slightly behind the tie in point and bring forward over the eyes and tie off. Whip Finish.

Epoxy coat the body and wing case.

Very nice tie, how long does it take you to tie one of these at a normal pace? Seems like an easier tie.
