Misery Pike?

What type of lures are used in Misery for Pike? Top water lures? Never caught one in my Life and I do not understand.

Pike will eat just about anything. I prefer spoons, but have caught em on spinners, topwaters, crankbaits, live bait, you name it. If you target bass in the bay long enuff....you'll get one. Make sure your line is up to the challenge or use a steel lead.....dem teef r sharp.

Ok, thanx. May hit the Bay today after my Buddy gets out of work, if he calls. Picked up a Moss Boss to try and have some 3/4oz weedless spoons. Picked up some Pike sent to try as well.

I think "pike spray" is unnessacary.  I caught a few this year, no spray required.

At least for me, i have found reeling in to fast is not bad thing. Speed is great for triggering a strike. Those fish cant stand to see a bait go flying by them, they are programed to react at that kinda of crazy nonsence. You will get some of the hardest strikes when you burn the baits. Everytime i go out, i spend a good portion of the time fishing fast, if the fish are moving they will chase them down, you can not reel faster than the fish can swim...trust me. I know guys who troll for musky at 8 mph and they catch many fish at that speed, pike are just as fast as skies

Each day is different, but atleast give speed some time each time your out there. You can cover alot of water, and move the active fish. Later you can go and fish it slower.

If any pike will do, then keep throwing bass spinner baits and you will eventually catch one. It might be low 20s in length but you will find them, cast in slightly deeper water, fish 4-8 foot deep water and fish liek you would for shallow bass. They are there you just need to put it in front of them.

One trick I find works for Pike is throwing a Rapala or other diver. When you start reeling it in. Stop, let it rise a bit and pull it through the water. Reel the slack in and repeat. That seems to cause a lot of quick impulse type strikes.

Howard Eaton has an over abundance of Pike, crushed them on topwaters and spinnerbaits.  Has anyone had much luck at Lebouf fished there a few times last year and got some Bass, Crappie, and other panfish did not fish much for Muskie but I was out with the women so you guys can guess how that can go when trying for Muskie or any fish!!

At Eaton Res., the 5 of Diamonds has always worked well for me early in the season.  Later on, top-water popper do the trick as well.  I notice that the res. always seems to get like glass after 6 pm.  Anyone else notice that?  I never fish it until that time so I can use top-waters.

I've noticed targeting Northerns that early in the morning or about 4:30 - 5:00 in the afternoon when the wind calms the pike seem to go on a feed! I think it probably has to do with the light conditions, plus the fact they are voracious feeders! I've always had good luck with a big spoon with a baitcaster or spinning rod - cast as far as you can - let sink a little - start your retrieve - 4 or 5 cranks - jerk your rod tip - start retrieve and repeat process all the way - work the water around you - from shore or boat! Daredevle's work well, but any big spoon or spinnerbait will give you good results! Good luck!

I was also on top of the pike today but could not get a bite. the fish were very active, jumping out of the water all around me, saw some monster pike.  also found a ton of gar where i was, they were everywhere.  couldnt get them to commit to anything either, they would follow my lures righ up to the kayak somtimes take a swipe but never take it.  any one have any tips on catching gar? i want to catch one now that i know where they are and i was so close today.
