New to Erie

Just moved to the area from far away lol. Used to fish for big salmon back in Ireland. I've been reading up on the Erie salmon and want to know if I have to fish a beat like back in my country. Do the salmon come into the streams all year? What's an oil creek? What's the difference between your lake run salmons and the big ones back home on my Blackwater River? what is the local policy on snagging? Just got a place in fairview at a steal *wink. Hope to fish with All my new mates soon. Thanks. Francis

hey francis, what county are you from?  also, a wooly bugger is a prehistoric beast.  the hair from such makes excellent flies.  as for creeks, they are oil over the place and some are good to fish in.  glad to see ya here again.

hate to tell you, though you probably already know, but there are more italians in ireland than there are salmon in erie streams.  did you play first base for the white sox awhile back?

frank, you are a few years too late for salmon. the russians snagged all the salmon so all we get now are steelhead.

the first oil well was drilled in titusville pa. the creek that runs along the town is called oil creek, i'm not sure why.

long story? we dont mind at all. Just seems odd that you would end up in erie of all places. Erie job market cant be better than your home country. Maybe new york city or
    California but not erie Pa.
not to offend you but just seems odd.

    From what I've read...

The Indianz actually used to soak pieces of cloth in the backwaters & eddies of the creek for fire starters. It actually had a viable amount of oil floating on the surface...although not nearly the volume on the gulf of Mexico today.

    And welcome Frank...
my son was born on St.Pattys day, is this good luck? Let me no, k?

Well, I suppose you could fish for the steelhead in the summer, but you would need to go way out on the lake.

is the lady friend "the bird"? I was asking about your job because erie has the highest unemployment
rate in Pa. I know that alot of Bosnian relocate here and recieve all the benefits, health care, job training and housing, thought you might be doing that.
welcome aboard, send me a pm and maybe we'll fish together. My hometown is pittsburgh but I have a summer cottage in erie and spend most of my free time there.
