building "ed tips"

not sure if this is fly tying...

materials...
Rio t-14
level .078" floating line
50# hollow braid
12# mono
30# mono
aquaseal + cotol 240 (i'm not picturing this... as it takes some time)

knots
nail knot- http://www.animatedknots.com/nailknot/index.php
perfection loop- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTSCVlFObHU

this is ed ward's method to making uniform tips
i base mine on 15' ft, which feels like a good match for my head, rod, and casting
for this tip (and pictures) i am using 5ft of level and 10ft of t-14... i'm also making 9/6 and 11/4 ratios

put a loop onto the end that will attach to the head
you want at least 2in of line in the braid
close off with a nail know of 12#
aqualseal up to the loop

next is the level to the t-14
each should be at least 2in in the braid
cut each on an angle so they can overlap a bit
12# nail knots on each end
aqualseal both lines... BUT leave the middle 2inches (inch on each side) unsealed

on the fly end of the tip nail knot 30# and perfection loop the end
use a perfection loop on the end of your leader for an easy loop to loop connection

Thanks Kevin - good explanation. I used to use superglue - too stiff though.  Your right in that Aquaseal is the way to go. Thanks again.

Now that's a thought - Don't have any of the flex but when I do - I'll have to try it.
