Questions/Requests
In an attempt to make the tutorial section as organized as possible, several members thought it would be a good idea to create a thread that would be pinned to the top of the page for those who may be interested in asking a question about a certain method of tying or seeing a complete tutorial on a certain pattern. Please try to ask questions or make requests that would be best served by what this section is all about and that is tutorials. For instance, if your interested in just what materials that are used in a certain pattern - that would be better served on the main Fly Tying page. There are so many talented members here on this forum, that I'm sure someone will be able to help out. The thing about fly tying is that there are so many different directions to go from midges for trout to saltwater flies for stripers. So ask away within this thread and together lets make this section a great resource for us all to refer to. Steely

I like the marabou speys but have no idea how to prepare the marabou and also how to palmer it, I looked at the steps in the tutorial and I didnt get it. A video or maybe pictures of this specific part or maybe more specific pictures. Another tutorial I would be interested in would be the lazer flies Ive seen before and how they are fished. thanks

KJH did a pictorial specifically about preparing marabou...I'm not sure what else you need on that one...can you be more specific? I can do a laser fly tutorial.

I was just going to request the same thing. I had saved a tutorial from flyandfloatfishing.com on the senyo wiggle nymph. But since the site is currently not operating I lost it before I could try it.

If I get a chance to tie this weekend, I'll do one. However, I'm not going to be at a computer most of next week, I have to do some out of office work. So, if it can wait a week or more until I post it, I'll do it. If someone else wants to do one, I'll let them do it. LeT mE No0

This may seem elemetary but can anyone give me some advice on what is the best technique to use when using mallard breast feathers as a collaring material. I'm trying to tie up a pattern I saw in the Orvis catalog called a Chicken Little and I can not get the mallard feathers to wrap in a satisfactory manner. Thanks.

Buggerman, a few tips: 1: Wrap collar wet-hackle style. (Pull the fibers back against the grain, and tie in by the tip.) 2: Strip all fibers from the "down" side of the quill. For example, in a traditional setup, the hook eye is the rightmost part...when tying in by the tip, you'll strip all fibers from the far side of the feather, then wrap away from you. 3: Choose feathers with thin quills, and only use the portion of the feather with the thin quill. No good will come of trying to use a chunky-stemmed feather.

I recently did a frog pattern with deer hair and would like to add some different colors to the pattern. This is what i made What i would like to do is add some color like this pattern so my question is how do i make the colors seperate. When i spin the hair it goes all the way around and i cant find a way to make it stay in one place and still look full with no gaps. I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with...

I hate nymphing, but when I do tie nymphs, it's generally extremely heavy dredging flies. Just tied up a few stones on Partridge wide-gap nymph hooks. Thinkin they might work on steelies. Ran out of black beads, but normally that's what I'd choose on this one:

Sweet looking stone. is that in size 8? I think the steelhead would enjoy those for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I've had more success with stones in the spring than fall, though.

That's actually a #12. Biot tails, stretch skin abs, swiss straw case, biot legs, laser dub thorax, and bead of your choice. Not sure if the odd proportions of the hook will help or hurt, but we'll find out. :)

Aw dUUd, it's really simple. Zonker with 2 marabou collars. If you really want a tute, I can do one, but honestly, it's just a zonker, and instead of a turn of hackle or guinea for a collar, use 2-3 turns of blue and 2-3 turns of purple marabou. Easy peasy.
