Hows the Kiski fishing?

Hello to all out there in cyber space! How has the summer been going? How is the kiski fishing these days? Just wondering? Have not seen too many posts as of late about it. I would still like to fish it at some point. Have been real busy on the Connie, Slippery Rock, and the Yough. All three have been producing as of late. No need to give up your favorite spots. I am willing to do the leg work on my own. Just curious as to how it has been fishing. For all those who reply thank you very much. Good fishing to all.

May your fly rod always be bent!

I dont fish the kiski, but I fish the headwater tributaries alot and the fishing has been good the last few weeks.  The fish are biting as well as I have seen all summer, except for today.  The cold night had the fish shut down pretty hard, it seemed.

here are a couple large mouths that I pulled out of the river system this week.  Didnt get a picture of the biggest one...so these 1.5 pounders will have to do.  Both around 14-15".

the kiskiminetas river is at the junction of the loyalhanna creek and the conemaugh river in Saltsburg.  From there, it flows NW to the allegheny river in freeport.

what kinda lure is that in the 2nd pic?

Its a spinner setup that I make.   I get a basic spinner spoon and shaft, a weighted hook with the baitholder spike on it and I put various types of rubber minnows on there, hooked weedless.

The spinners are very very effective with any minnow that has a paddle tail or a twister tail.  They look super realistic, have extra flash, and the weighted hook allows them to swim and sink upright.   I have had a ton of success with them and they are far cheaper to make than buying Meps or Panther Martin minnow spinners that are far less life-like and often untuned.

that is the hook I use.  Mustad Power Lock Plus, size 1/0.  Any 3" bait and above works well.

    I hope this helps.

Oh, the added advantage of making your own spinners like this is that you can change the color of the bait in 5 seconds, without changing lures.
