DOWN RIGGER BALL

What size down rigger ball should I use on lake erie for walleye fishing? I just picked up 2 cannon down riggers real cheap but neither had the weight. I usually troll with dipsys or deep diving cranks, looking forward to giving the down riggers a try.

    what kind of water do you go out in ? and what part of erie you can get by with a 8lb i use a 8 to a 10 max but the water i fish is max 76 feet and dont go past 2.7 mph i also use the fish weight from time to time i painted colors from red head black body then will switch up color for the balls hope that helps also if you run a braid you can go lower on weight size

    8 to 10 lb pancake style they run nice hardly any drift back

    Thanks, I figured 8-10 lbs. would do, just wanted to make sure. I plan on hitting Erie more this spring and summer. Last year was my first in my own boat and we had great success with dipsys but I couldn't pass up the deal on these riggers. We fished out of Walnut last year, I plan on heading out of Barcelona and or Dunkirk a few times this year as it is closer to home. That early bite out of walnut sure was tough to beat last year, 3 limits on 3 trips. Several were over 7lbs.

    I have 2 Cannon Mag 10 electrics hardly ever use them anymore for eyes cause it's too easy getting them on dipsys. To me they are just $1000.00 rod holders,but they look nice on the boat. I will use them sometimes but hardly ever catch any fish on them,will use them for steelies in the fall they don't seem like the balls spook them. The early bite was great off walnut but the summer bite of connie/bula was fantastic,limits everytime out and very quick just unbelieveable they were stacked over there real nice size too.

    ill drop the ball and most of the time it gets a few one thing i do is the rod im using will have 8to 10lb test an the lure nothing else loose drag ive been real good with that set up but i use a fish weight and its painted with a red nose like a big red head lure

    I have the fish weights too painted them black,nothing then I painted one of them chartruse the other blaze orange nothing then I painted them silver with black eyes and klack dots with a pink stripe down their sides still can't seem to pull that many fish off them. Sometimes I'll drop the ball to the bottom,bounce it a couple times to create a mud cloud and pop it off the ball and let the bait flutter up sometimes they just can't resist that,we call that trick f---ing them.

    do ya have a picture of that sounds like a good color lol i painted one blue with a red head one black with red head and lost one silver with red it worked best
