Monroeville Area Trout Fishing
Good evening! I just moved to Monroeville and I was wondering if anyone knows of some good trout fishing streams or lakes close by. I know a lot about fishing in Greensburg and near Allison Park but I don’t know much about Monroeville. Any input would be awesome! So, How about them Steelers!!!

You are close to Turtle Creek I think. Also you are close to the turnpike and are within 40 minutes of good Laurel Mountain trout streams.

Turtle Creek is about the only option NEAR Monroeville...no other bodies of water that I know of. Lasts about 2 months from trout opener...assuming it gets stocked this year after the gasoline spill couple of months ago.

yeah swans' right, you might be better off going back to twin lakes for now. turtle creek is good in the spring ive seen fish there til late june in certain less fished holes but they dont stock it in the fall and there have been two gas spills into the creek actually. you can access turtle creek at saunders station road and at forbes road near trafford, you can also park at BY park in trafford and access the creek(BY park has a nice pond for blue gill, channel cats and carp, also a few sml crappie and bass).

welcome to monroeville - i've lived here for 58 years! turtle creek is stocked two or three days before opening day and then again once during the season usually a week or two after the opener. it can be quite crowded at the two bridges where they stock and the stream ain't the cleanest or the sceenery ain't the best but it is still trout fishing. i wouldn't worry at all about that gas spill that occurred way up in murrysville - we didn't see or smell anything down where i live near valley park - which is well upstream of the saunder's station bridge - the first stocking point. the big worry is acid mine drainange coming from the export area. the commission check water quality before they stock and in the [ast have not stocked because of water quality. personally, i jump onto the turnpike and within an hour you can fish a number of very clean and scenic mountain stream near laurel mountain. phish

They used to have a trout pond at the Expo mart for the outdoor show. But I believe they have even moved that out of Monroeville, to the convention center. Everything is moving out of the ville.

no -BY is not in boyce park - it's a small pond - ideal for kids - near trafford. go south on 48 from the parkway - vear left onto haymaker road at gateway high school - stay on haymaker til you go down a steep long hill to forbes road (a classic PIT intersection with 6 roads meeting at one place) and turn left on forbes. go to where forbes road T's (you'll cross turtle creek) and make a right at the T. B-Y pond will be on your right about 1/2 mile down this road. phish

When I lived in Monroeville my favorite fishing hole was Keystone State Park lake. They stock trout pretty heavy in the spring and there are some holdovers.

SlipperySmitt, What you say goes and it was off topic anyway but there wasn't really anything harmful to "youngsters'. They were two hot fully clothed girls, they had small skirts but I see worse at the mall just about every time I go.

Hi, I just found this thread. I too recently moved to the area (Murrysville). I would like to know if Turtle Creek is fishable in murrysville area. If not can anyone post good directions to the couple of fishing spots off forbes road and saunders road in monroeville? Thanks

Hey Musky - where is the park in Trafford? Is there gills in there where a 3 year old could fish? I live in Forest Hills.

i dont think the trout get too far upstream fo the saunder station access. coming from murrysville, take 22W to 48S, bear Left onto haymaker rd, towards the hospital. then about another quarter mile bear left onto saunders station rd. access is at the bottom of a huge hill by the train tracks. all ive seen upstream of valley park is creek chubs. nowhere near murrysville, but its not impossible for them to get up there, i think stockies are just lazy.

the first pa fish commission stocking point is at the saunder's station bridge - it's downstream of where both abers creek and another clean creek comes into turtle creek and the acidic water upstream of abers creek gets neutralized enough to stock trout (usually). the water is just too acidic (typically) up in murrysville. in the past i've had trout in abers creek right in front of my house a few days after stocking which is maybe a mile or so upstream of saunders station bridge. i think they were following the cleaner water trying to get out of turtle creek. i doubt seriously if any head up towards murrysville although trout have been reported in the stream that follows sardis road. they coulda come from a local stocker though and not from turtle creek. phish

Haven't fished tc in years, but just never seemed to do good there, whether i wen't upstream or down, it didn't matter. Remember finding quite a few nice pools & runs-thinking that they definately had to hold some trout, threw everything but the kitchensink at em, tactics that always seem to work for me in other streams, but it just didn't matter. I either caught nothing but chubs or nothing at all. I tried BY park yrs ago when i was engaged to my ex (who's father lives in trafford) just for something to do & try it out, but never caught nothing more than panfish although i've heard that at one time (not sure about now) that they used to throw some trout in BY pond also, plus theres some decent sized carp in there as well.
