Allegheny River pool 5 boat launches
Does anybody know of any public boat launches on pool 5 of the Allegheny river? I was told there are a couple in Buffalo Township, but haven't been able to find any info. on them. Thanks, Bob

Thanks Invader, but I think you are talking about Freeport and that would be pool 4.

Buffalo creek dumps into Pool 4 of the Allegheny river. Pool 5 starts at Freeport, lock 5, and extends to Kelley Station, lock 6. The pools are numbered by the lock that backs them up.

No problem, it's a common misconception.

outdrwriter, I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure there is a boat launch right along the river in Freeport. I do believe it is owned by the fish commission, but it has been a years since i've been up to that pool.

You're probably talking about the one on Buffalo creek that is about a mile below Lock 5. I was hoping to find one on pool 5, perferably in the upper half of the pool. My big boat is out of commission right now and it is a pretty long haul locking through with the little boat from 4 or 6.

sorry outdrwriter, I made the same misconception about the pools on the river. There are some boat launches on pool 5 in buffalo twp. They are marked on the corp of engineers navigational maps. Here is a link if you want to check it out. http://www.lrp.usacr.army.mil/navchart/al/chart12.pdf It shows the roads to the launches but it doesn't show the road names. hope this helps.

Appreciate the link highgear, but I can't get it to work. I have been all over the COE site and all I can find are printed charts to purchase. Been wanting them for a while, guess it's time to break down and buy them. After further digging I found the pdf, thanks.

The Schenley Yacht Club will let you launch for a fee. It's not really a yacht club, and the ramp is not the finest. It's just above the dam, so you'd better be sure the motor starts before you get out in the current. Here's the link from the Armstrong County tourist bureau: Schenley Yacht Club 108 Industrial Drive Schenley, PA 15682 724-295-2141 724-295-2146 (fax)

Guys, which pool is Harmarville and is it a 12" or 15" minimum for keeper bass? Launch facility at that pool? I have a friend who lives down there, wants to go fishing but has not clue about the river in that area, quite frankly neither do I! any info would be appreciated, thanks.

That would be pool 2, don't know about launches I spend most of my river time further north. This is from the PFBC website: Bass-Rivers and Streams Largemouth, smallmouth and spotted Additional regulations may apply-see Big Bass regulations Jan. 1 through April 13 and Oct. 1 through Dec. 31 15 inches 4 (combined species) April 14 through June 15 NO HARVEST - catch and immediate release only (no tournaments permitted) June 16 through Sept. 30 12 inches 6 (combined species)
