SIDEWINDER FLOATS
Fished with a gent on Saturday that was absolutely smacking the fish around in Low/Clear conditions with a new "Sidewinder" float, was very interesting to say the least. This new float is supposed to be on loan/prototype and actually seems to "trot" itself without any angler input/control. Redd? and a few of his boys gave me a couple of these new prototypes and I had good luck w/ them all day Sunday. Talk about running a seam and line control... Even in Sunday's wind 100-150' drifts were no problem, with tracking like it was on rails. C-pinners should see improved starup on sluggish reels without losing a line on a seam drift.

No planer. Float seemed to have "V" shaped keel near the body, then graduating to a more common stick shaped keel that I would imagine turned itself one way either upstream or down, but I have no Idea how the float slowed itself. I understand current speed in terms of the water column, with the fastest being at the top/mid level, but I usually adjust shot to get my bait out ahead of my float -No need here. I would post some pix, but I lost the ****ed thing on Sunday. Only thing I didn't care for was it seemed like the float took longer to right itself in the water after casting, although the wind was playing it's havoc.

Were you running these with a spin or fly setup?

I was using the float w/ my spin set-up, but I usually use a pin when crowds are thin later in the year. Also, this has no resemblence to the BulBob or whatever that link leads to. It is clear plastic, maybe 2 1/2 gram to 3 gram tops and when submerged looks much like any other conventional Blackbird/Drennen etc etc. Not a large float at all, other than the somewhat long keel. Body is very small. I guess we'll see em' soon enough. I think he said the manufacturing company was from Michigan. Said the maker was considering balsa or plastic material and larger floats in the future.

is there a website for these or a way to get a look at them

I believe the float is being manufactured by Drennen, but not totally sure yet. It truely is amazing to say the least. I was fortunate enough to get one of the prototypes up at Elk Creek Outfitters....I guess the rep. was up there last weekend pushing the new item and Dan had limited quantities....He would only give out one per angler. My buddy and brother were up there today and said they still had some left. The guy you ran into on the stream very well could have been that rep. Roy, especially if he had a bunch of them. You may be able to google the sidewinder or find a video on youtube. Anyway, I'll be putting mine to the test here this weekend again for sure! Tight lines!

I may be wrong, but I could have sworn the gent said the product was from Michgan. I don't think it was drennen, or SR Supply would have prolly provided some to a few shops along the shore. Anyways, if you have an extra or two send em' my way. Hopefully the rep will read this board and chime in.

Try www.bulletbobber.com and checkout the DualFin - my favorite - 6" long, very light, and easy to rig.
