Penn Twp. Municipal Park

So my 4 year old son has been bugging me to take him to catch a catfish and carp.  He says he's tired of the tons of bass and bluegills we catch in the local farm ponds.  I'm afraid I've created a monster.

So, I've been thinking about taking him to the Penn Twp. Municipal Park near Penn Trafford High School.  It's been probably 12 years since I've fished there, and it used to be pretty easy to catch a few back in the day.  It's about an hour drive for us, so I was wondering if any of you guys take your kids there or what's going on there these days?  Still some fish left in there, or has it been fished out?

still fish in there. stocked with trout too. 10 min away is Oak Hollow Park in North Huntingdon, I used to fish for cats there all the time. Another fun location for carp is PAL field. Gotta be sneaky in that creek, especially when the water is low.

rsquared, I might as well give you this spot, cause I absolutely dispise catfish and carp... more of a trout guy, you know? anyway, if you live in or around Butler County this'll be a great place. Try this creek near Harbar Acres lake. It's a brook trout lake (mostly early season, late season kills off all the fish) but if you follow the road to the upper (I believe, haven't been there) theres this deep muddy creek. From what I heard easy to catch catfish there... chicken liver.. I'll stick to flies
    Good luck!

Been meaning to post these up.

Couple weeks after I asked, we finally got there and got my son his first catfish.  Great place for kids, and just a reminder for anyone dreaming of catfish fillets, IT IS CATCH & RELEASE/FISH FOR FUN ONLY!!!!

My son couldn't hold it, so we had to lay it on the ground for a quick picture, and back it went.

    ehh, working on it
