Porktown
One year and one day ago. I had my first skunking of the year at Lake Porktown. I might go walk on the ice with a fishing rod this weekend to get it out of the way. Find a hole to stick my rod in. Thus, is the meaning of life…

I know it's cold out but let everyone know if it is 8" or less. Wear cleats, gunna be slippery. A hatchet or bar will be helpful.

Be well worth the outing to listen to the silence, look around, relax, breathe and enjoy 🐧

If you do end up going I could meet you at the parking lot and lend you a auger if needed.

Should have a couple down the basement. Don't think I took all of them to the camps.

Appreciate the offer, but I was just messing around. Kids have plans for me on Saturday to drive them to Youngstown and will be wasting my time watching the refs crown the Chiefs on Sunday. I’ll be patient for the ice to melt. Unless we hit mid March and still locked up.

Yeah I figured you didn't want to stick your rod in a icy hole . Don't blame ya.

Oldest son is supposed to fish the Glades on Saturday. I haven't fished over that way for a long, long time.

Have a good rest of the week.

No go today. Went yesterday in the rain. Three stripes. A double 25” for my first fish(es) of the year. Followed by a 23”. Somehow didn’t start the year with a skunking! Couldn’t buy a bite on crappie in the depths. Only boat on the main part of the lake. One other boat pulling off when I showed up.

Will do. I did about 3 hours of work on my boat. So wasn’t sure when I’d hit the water and how long. About 10 minutes on the water, it started pouring. My sonar wasn’t working, since I knocked the fuse loose. I didn’t realize the “taps” punching the cover back on my fuse box would knock them loose. I had 3-4 of them that I knocked loose. I was so sore yesterday from crawling around pulling wires, turning my body in different directions trying to get under and around tight spaces. But should be ready for the season. Just need time to fish now! Was debating today, but don’t really want to go in the rain again. Gusts up to 30 added to the wind no longer has me debating. Just too hard to fish in that.

I hear you on the being sore part. Watched a video the other day on how to install a hitch on my Durango and could feel my body ache by just watching it but going to order one anyway.

Have a F-150 sitting in the driveway that needs some rocker panel work for inspection so will probably do that first and have more options for use.

The F-350 crew cab, 8' bed dually is in the shop getting brake lines put on and new inspection. That beast is too long and wide for me launching a boat at many of the ramps.

Have to get my butt to the park office and get a couple 2 year launch permits for canoes also.

All these boats sitting at home and camp not getting any use year after year is disturbing. Son has a large boat storage building and only has his pontoon boat in it.

My buddy Timbo and I were supposed to head to Pymy for the weekend and fish Red Cross but he had to work.

Son is moving across from Lake Arthur C.C. later this month so maybe he will take his Walleye and Bass boat out of my yard and leave me a 15' - 16' to use if wanted.

Almost went down Friday but the wind was Gustin to much on my end of the lake, rain was off and on.

It was gusting too much and raining too much on the main body of the lake too. Would be that for 1/2 hour then rather calm for 1/2 hour. Had me peeling and putting back on layers. I had my Bimini up, so wasn’t soaked. But that thing acts like a sail.

I’m getting ready to measure for some exterior railing. I’m sore just thinking about installing it.

Good decision to not come up today. Started raining purdy good at 11:20 am, Muddy Creek end of the lake. I don't even want to go outside and feed the bait fish.

Had 9 Crappy in the bucket last night and dumped 'em out again at the end. To lazy to clean just 9. 12 and up is time better spent.

Not sure if I will head out between rain breaks today or wait until tomorrow?

I dont think I’ve done Arthur in two years? Maybe three? I hit the stumps at wilhelm last spring instead. Way less crowded and way more peaceful, but it was another 45 minutes north.

So what should I do? Give Arthur another chance this spring? I’ve been considering it.

Hey Pork, They came out of the woodwork after dark again. Waded a spot I haven't fished in some years. They are getting bigger.

We aloud to post pictures on here? Don't want to break any rules. Not sure how much longer I can wade in the dark. Can't see for crap anymore.

Nah, She was on hold. Can't kill a fish like that. She was released a few minutes ago from where she was caught.

Hard to believe a thick fat 12 - 1/2" slab looked like a dwarf laid next to it.

MyWar, I'd advise you to stay away from Lake Porktown. It is offensively malodorous, synonyms: fetid, foetid, foul funky, ill sented, noisome, smelly, plain out stinking, nasty, grewsome, gross, disgusting and getting worse day by day. Trust me, STAY AWAY!!

Sorry Pork but gotta tell it the way it is. Did catch that Crappie on a piece of pork grind though.

Thanks Mike, I enjoyed your posts on the Homesteading thread. Hope you have a great harvest this year.

We can kiss our aszes goodbye!

For the next 3 weeks I would recommend bringing these along. Especially if you plan on fishing the shallows or shore fishing. I wouldn't recommend bringing children or having a shore lunch either.

It's as bad as a Pork Pen. Bad enough some areas of the lake bottom are like a septic tank leech field if get out of boat to wade or having that black stinkin' muck all over your anchor.

At least at Pymatuning it gets rough enough to wash the carcasses up onto the bank. They can deuterate much faster on land. The sun, rain, birds, critters, bugs, flies and maggots can have field days.  Thank goodness for that when the Koi Herpes virus hit it a few years back.  No fish stinks as bad as a Shad.

Mywar, I would stick to the rivers till then when fishable. Much cleaner with nice sand/gravel and flow plus the Small Mouth are a blast this time of year.
